Hello Peter,
Just this minute received your reply to my query "is anyone out there". I am the wife of a man whose family ancestry has many "Kynes" in it. I happened to be working on my own family history, so I don't have time to tell you about your illustrious surname. Just to keep you interested, tho, and I hope this won't bother you, but the Irish name Kyne was originally Chaign and comes from France. I don't know if all the Chaigns were Huguenots, but the story is that they left France to survive several centuries ago and well.. If I go on,I'll be here until next week. So I'm going to sign off now, but I promise to get back to you.
I'll give you this info though and maybe you can do some research on your own. The Kynes landed in Galway and settled in a small town inland on a place that straddled two lakes, Lake Corrib and Lake Mask called Clonbur.Kyne is a popular name there. We visited there awhile back and met the nicest people. The parish priest loaned us the batismal record book and we found his relatives listed. Well, maybe I'm part Irish as I tend to go on and on. Send me your direct e-mail address rather than having to go through this website each time. Mine is prjones2@tampabay.rr.com.

Isn't it a small world. In my note to Patrick Kyne, London, I mentioned my husband's and my visit to Clonbur to try to find out more about his Kyne ancestors. Anyway, about the Hollywood "Kyne's".

We were in the local pub studying the parish baptismal record book the priest had loaned us, when two young men came in the door looking for us. The bar tender pointed us out and when they came over told us the priest had sent them there as he had loaned us "the book". I was speechless when I looked at the one fellow and I commented to my spouse that he resembled Gene Kelly so much. Well it turned out he was Gene's son and I guess his companion was a friend. They were doing the same thing we were...only their Kyne was spelled Coyne. I guess we were finished with the book and handed it over. They told us about the name spelling, etc. and gave us a Beverly Hills address. Never did get in touch with him.....my letter was returned, not forwarded. Seems his mother was deceased at the time and Gene of course had remarried & I think was also deceased. (1988?) And so it goes. We really didn't have time to research more than we had found, but we had a terrific time there one evening in the pub when we had dinner and joined in the Irish Dancing. I'll never forget it. The priest there had copied all the registrations from the original book because it was "too fragile to loan out" even for a short time. Let me know if I can help you with any more facts. Line we researched was Patrick and Bridget Moran Kyne.

Interestingly, we stayed at a B&B called Ballykyne House.
My spouse was descended from Patrick and Bridget Kyne through their daughter Mary Catherine who married Patrick F. Jones who was a coppersmith on the beautiful Biltmore mansion in Ashville, North Carolina. Patrick went on to own a roofing business in Kansas City, Missouri.

Barbara, I just read your message and thought I'd mention that it is my recently deceased husband's Kyne ancestry that I've been searching. Patrick Kyne died in late 1870's

and she married Dennis James McCarthy in 1880, presumably in
Pittsburgh.Patrick and Bridget had 6 children, one of whom was born in Clonbur. Bridget and Dennis had 3 children.

Anyone wanting more information, please contact this blog.
Anyone who can give me information about either Patrick or Bridget's ancestry, please also contact this blog.

Hello jkyne84. I was notified of your reply to this message board. My recently deceased husband is the Kyne descendant as his grandmother, Mary Kyne married his grandfather, Patrick Francis Jones. I don't think anyone in his ancestry spelled the last name with a C. Let me know if this has any connection to your line. Phyllis Jones

Hello,
My name is Ron O'Connor. My GG-grandfather Michael O'Connor married Mary Elizabeth Kyne, Sister to Michael and Anthony. They also settled in St. Michael. Both died in St. Michael. I am trying to follow their chain back to Ireland. I have Mary Elizabbeth Kyne coming from Ballenrobe, Mayo. I have no back up info to verify that. Any help would be much appreciated.
