Hi, I am researching the names in the subject. The family member, who has since passed away, said his name was originally Kwiecienski and he spelled it for me. On his birth certificate he's listed as Stanislav Krviecin b: Feb 1, 1914 in Mpls.,MN. It listed his father as Victor Krviecin of Russia, age 40 at last birthday (abt 1874) of Russia and his mother Terezia Worwa of Austria, age 45 at last birthday (abt 1869).
Eventually Stanislav had his name changed to Walter James Kaye. Any help greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much for your reply. I'm sorry to say that I do not know the history of Poland. So, is the name Polish or Russian? Now I do not know. I will look into the sites you listed to learn more. Walter's birth certificate shows he was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and lists his father as Victor Krviecin of Russia. That's all. Any further thoughts or suggestions grately appreciated.

Ms.

You need to find some information on Victor. Does he show up in 1930 census? If yes, does the census say Na-naturalized or Al-alien? Did he have social security numbers? What was the "mother tongue"? With the SKI ending it would suggests Polish but to early to say. No mention of a mother's name on his birth certificate? How about the CHURCH baptismal certificate?

Mother's name on birth certificate was Terezia Worwa of Austria, age 45 at last B-day (abt 1869). I've never done research in Poland or Russia so this is totally new to me. Thank you for all your suggestions. I'm most grateful for any & all help.

Hello Luisa, Here is the information I have on this family line which belongs to my granddaughters.

In the early 1990's Walter Kaye, himself, told this writer that his surname originally was Kwiecienski (he
spelled it), but that it was shortened to Kaye in this generation. As Walter was always called "Kaye"
for short (as a nickname) he decided to legalize it when he went into the refrigeration business to
make it easier for business purposes.
-After Walter's death, however, his son, Douglas, found a copy of his birth certificate showing Walter
was born February 1, 1914 at 609 19th Avenue N.E., Minneapolis, MN. His name on this
certificate from Minneapolis., Hennepin County, MN was Stanislav Krviecin. The name "Stanislav" was
crossed out and in its place was written "Walter James" with a notation "altered date of 2/5/58 by
sister's affidavit." This birth certificate listed his father as Victor Krviecin, of Russia, age 40 at last
birthday and his mother as Terezia Worwa, of Austria, age 45 at last birthday. The certificate also showed that he was delivered by midwife,
Mrs. M. Galush at 3:30pm on 1 Feb. 1914.
-In addition to a copy of his birth certificate was a name change application from Hennepin County, MN
dated 1940 which shows the name was changed to Walter James Kaye.
-Walter had siblings, but the only ones this writer is aware of are those which were listed in Walter's
obituary. They are Sr. Mary Augustine and Sr. Mary Damien of Sylvania, OH.
-Walter passed away at the St. Louis Park Plaza Healthcare Center in St. Louis Park, MN.
-To date this writer has no knowledge of his resting place.

Ms.

Long time since your post. Just got back to the board because of Luisa's post to your. I must not have been nofified about your post cause I think I would have replied to you.
Common language in the old days was a must for our ancestors. If they married in "old country" than the villages would be within 10 miles radius.
Austria, Poland would refer to historical region Galicia that was controlled by Austria.

No V in Polish alphabet.
Found only 1 person with KRVIECIN arriving thru Ellis Island so I bet that the surname was transcribed incorrectly.
Krviecin, Wojciech Glazow, Russia 35 1874 1909 Looking at the manifest, the surname is KWIECIN.
In Poland: KWIECIN, KWIECINSKI, KWIECIN', KWIECIN'SKI, KWIECIEN, KWIECIEN', KWIECIEN'SKI. Spelling is very important in Poland.

Walter Kaye was my uncle. He was my mother's brother. Mother's name was Stephanie Sawatzky. Perhaps my recollection of Grandpa Victor, which I posted on this message board, might shed some light on your information about our family. I am curious about your relationship to Walter. I know that his first wife was Lois Sorenson, and her mother's name was Edith Sorenson. If you want to correspond with me privately, my e-mail is EATSawatzky@yahoo.com.
