My grandmother was Sara (originally Vadiswava) Kwiatkowski born April 8, 1895. She was the daughter of Thomas Kwiatkowski. Her mother's name was Eva, I believe. She and her parents lived in or near Swedtown, PA. Her father died of polio and her mother remarried a man named Skinkis. I am looking for anyone that may be related and would love to hear from you.

My mother is a Skinkis, and her father is named Kenneth Skinkis. There is a large tribe if them in and around Green Bay, WI. Do you know the first name of the man your mother married?

Re: My Mother is a Skinkis
Actually it was my great grandmother who married Frank Skinkis. They had a number of children: Barney (fka Bruno), Leo, Joe, Bill, Charlotte, Helen, Florence. Helen and Florence lived in New York. Barney lived in Michigan and then Florida.

Hi!
I too am a Skinkis. The oldest of 10. My father was from Pittsburgh PA but he always talked about summers & picking fruit in Wisconsin.
I always thought that I would have to be related to any Skinkis in the US, but I am finding out that there are more than I thought. Would love to share .

Jean,
I am not real familiar with the different areas of Poland yet, but I am very interested in any possible connections to the Kwiatkowski name from Poland.
I have a Lawrence Kwiatkowski married to Frances Kalinowski from the area of Przybyslaw/Turzany/Parchanie/Inowroclaw.
Lawrence and Frances had a daughter Josephine born in Przybyslaw I am guessing @ 1870, so Lawrence would be born @ 1850....all guess work on the dates. However, Josephine did marry 2nd husband Joseph Szczupak in Rochester NY 20 January 1908. He emigrated to US in MAy 1907 w/first wife and children, so Joseph and Josephine could have known each other/been from same area. Josephine died 12 March 1946 in Rochester.
Other names from the same area are Kaliska, Niewiadowski, Burmistrzak, Paprocki, Borowicz, Adamski, Zwierzykowska, Karminska, Kruszynski and Ulanowski.
Turzany is a small community @ 4 km west of Parchanie, and Parchanie is @ 8 km east of Inowroclaw. All in the Posen/Poznan area. Most of the families were married in or buried from St. Nicholas Church in Inowroclaw. At some point in history, these villages/towns may have been under Polish/German/Russian rule, but the families have always considered themselves Polish.
Let me know if you think there may be a connection.
Regards, Maureen

Re: Skinkis (Russia-Lithuanian, Michigan, Ohio or even CA)
My husbands ancestry includes Skinkis.
Here's a synopsis of what I've been able to piece together.
(husband's great grandfather) Joseph Skinkis b. Jan 1853 Russia, first married Mary Ann/Anna Akson b. Russia (marriage date unknown), later married Anna/Annie (maiden unknown) b. May 1869 (marriage date uknown).
Joseph and first wife Mary Ann had so far five known children: Rose Agnes (commonly used Agnes) b. MI Jan 17 1886 (my husbands grandmother) Mary b. OH Mar 1888 Amelia (aka Minnie) b. OH Feb 26 1889 Nellie b ? Margaret b. ?
Joseph and second wife Annie had five sons that I know of: Joseph b. OH Sep 1893 Peter b. OH Nov 1896 John b. OH May 1899 William (Willie) b. OH abt. 1900 Frank b. OH abt. 1903
Second wife Annie died Sep 1 1940. To piece all these children into the same family here is Annie's obit: Skinkis: Anna, beloved wife of the late Joseph, mother of Joseph, Peter, John, William and Frank, stepmother of Mary, Nellie, Margaret, Agnes and Minnie, grandmother of Loretta and Edward Skinkis, passed away at 1:30 a. m. Aug. 31. Friends may call at Delia Jakubs' Lithuanian Funeral Home, 6621 Edna ave. Funeral services Monday, Sept. 2, at 8 a. m., St. George's Church. Burial Calvary Cemetery.
Annie's stepdaughter "Mary" listed in the obit is living with the family in the 1900 census. Where are Joseph's other children from his first marriage living??
Daughter Rose Agnes Skinkis first married John William Gallagher (b. abt 1881 Ireland) on May 31 1904 St. George's Church, Cleveland, OH. I believe John Gallagher passed away and she later married a man with the surname King. Rose Agnes Skinkis Gallagher King died in CA May 29 1969.
If I'm following the correct family, I have further census, death, obit, marriage etc. records for many of the children.
Looking to correspond with any Skinkis relations that might have connections to Russia-Lithuanian, Michigan or Ohio or even CA.

There is a family in Oconto and Brown Co.'s, Wisconsin. Originally, Joseph Skinkis landed in Ellis Island in the 1880's, and most likely traveled to Pennsylvania. From there he came to Oconto Co. Wisconsin. There he married Anna or Annie. They had 5 children: Annie, Louis, Emma, Jacob and Helena. A number of us still remain in the area.

Re: Skinkis (Russia-Lithuanian, Michigan, Ohio or even CA)
Any idea where your Lituanian Skinkis relatives came from in Lithuania. Ours came from the southwest corner of Lithuania where Poland, Prussia (now Russia), and Lithuania met.

Re: Skinkis (Russia-Lithuanian, Michigan, Ohio or even CA)
Hi maidenfair,
Sure wish I could tell you where in Lithuania my Skinkis came from because that would make me one happy person. But I can't. Do you have Skinkis relations from MI or OH or even CA that originated from Lithuania?
When you say "Ours came from the southwest corner of Lithuania where Poland, Prussia (now Russia), and Lithuania met.". I don't know what that means. Where in Lithuania are your ancestors from exactly?..what county, or whatever they called it there back then, did your Lithuania Skinkis ancestors come from?
Thanks for your interest and any continued responses.
