I am looking for information about my great grandfather, Peder Kvistad. He came to America from Inderoen, Norway about 1900. He settled in Michigan for a while then moved on to Minnesota ABT 1915. He was alone when he went to MN. Not sure where he settled there. Any info. would be appreciated.

I Know that Andreas Kvistad and Karoline
Johnsen were the parents of John Severn West
who came from Norway about 1900 from the Inderoen area of Norway. He was Married to
Inga Skaugset in the early 1900's and lived in Minn then moved to Washington state, first
Tacoma then Bellingham. There are other Kvistads in Bellingham. We are currently checking the connection between these familys.

Do you have any dates for Peder Kvistad other than when he came to America? My maternal grandfather, Lorentz W. Pederson came from Kvistad on Inderoy in 1867, homesteaded at Lake Park, MN in 1871, and later moved to Halstad, MN.

Thanks for the response.
Peder was born in 1873 in Inderoen. His wife (Karen b:1878) and kids (Thorleif b:1899, Marie b:1901, Jenny b:1903 and Lorentz b:1905) left Trondheim in 1906 (I found them on the emigrant list). They lived around Escanaba, MI (upper penninsula) for a while. Karen died there, and Peder eventually left the kids with other families and moved to Minnesota. That's all I know about Peder. My grandfather, Thorleif and his brother Lorentz (Lawrence)and Jenny eventually moved to California. Marie stayed in the Detroit area.
I'm guessing that Peder might have gone to Minnesota to be with other Kvistad's who were already there, but I'm not even sure where that might be.

Going back to the 1906 emigrant list from Trondheim, shows that only Karen Kvistad and her four children emigrated. The Peder Kvistad, right above Karen's name emigrated in 1904 and his residence was listed as America. This Peder goes to Minot, ND, and not Escanaba, MI as your people do. Go back to the registers and look at the very end of Karen Kvistad's line and you will see "Reiser til sin mand" - "traveling to her people." I still have not been able to find Karen and her son Thorleif in the 1900 Census for Inderoy.

Thanks for the info. Peder, Karen and Torleif are listed in the Trondheim census in 1900. I've since found a record showing that Peder made a petition for naturalization in Grand Rapids, MN (Itasca County District Court)on 26 Oct. 1920. All his kids are listed on the record and shown as living in Escanaba, MI.

Classification: Query
Surnames: Kvistad Questad
In case anyone still looks at these message forums, Peder (Changed to Peter) Kvistad (Changed to Questad) first moved to Minot, ND because that is where two of his uncles were living. They were Peder Kvistad/Quistad/Questad and (my g-g-grandfather) Jacob Kvistad/Questad. Anyone needing more information about this line please contact me.
