Hello,

I have been doing some research with my dad and have discovered when his grandfather John Meistad came through Ellis Island. John came through on June 16, 1907 on a ship called The Caronia. He was headed to Sioux City, Iowa to see his sister Randi Kvam. John married Eli Asphuld (from Alcester, SD) in Sioux Falls. Somewhere along the line they changed their names to J.M. and Ella Anderson and moved to Perkins County S.D.. They homesteaded in Anderson township and raised Arne, Einar, Goodred, Dagney, and Agnes. Einar married Lillian Johnson and they had Leland, Joe, Jerry, Jim and Agnes JoAnne. Jim is my father. I am Chet Anderson and I live and ranch on the original J.M. Anderson homestead. Feel free to e-mail me if you would like to share more information.

Thank you,

Chet Anderson

Surnames: Kvam, Wing
These people could be my great-grandparents. My grandmother was Agnes (Kvam) Wing, married to Knute Wing. Any connections?

Yes there is a connection! Randi and Agnes are sisters. They're actually burried right by each other at the cemetery.

I mean Randi is Agnes's mother. Sorry, I get all of the Kvams confused because there are so many of them to keep straight!

So are you the grandson of Randi's brother? The names aren't the same on the messdage board and I am new at this, so if there is a way to tell who is who...

No, I'm the great-granddaughter of Randi's other daughter, Ragna (Kvam) Larson.

I vaguely remember Ragna. We lived in Northfield (MN) and drove down to Sioux City occasionally to see Grandma (Agnes) and Great-Grandma (Randi) and we would see Ragna. I liked going down there because I liked to comb Great-grandma's hair. It was very long, and as she would say, "Tin". I was pretty young (seven or eight maybe?) but I remember her being very sweet. My parents didn't even tell me when she died because they knew I would take it hard- but eventually...
So that makes us second-cousins, I guess. Where do you live?
Julie

I actually still live in Sioux City. I never meet Randi, and I was still to young to remember Ragna. My grandmother is Avis (Larson) Perley. I don't know if you have heard of her or not, but she is Ragna's oldest daughter. She's the one who has told me everything about the Kvams, and for some reason, everyone gave her all of the important stuff for safe keeping. Like I have Albert's citizenship certificate and I have old pictures of the Kvams. If you would like, we could start e-mailing each other. I don't really like talking on here, because it's to open. My e-mail is star1645@aol.com. I'd be happy to tell you all I know, and I would love to hear what you know also.
