Okay, so i have a great grandfather by the name of Joseph Lawrence Kutcher, and he married my great grandmother, Mildred Emma Bonna, supposively in April of 1937. (we all think they were married in june of that year)They had a child,my grandpa, and soon after they got their marriage annulled. There are few people left we can talk to about the whole deal, and those who are alive are keeping us in the dark. does anyone have any tips on how to figure out this puzzle?

rereading that, i just found i left the point out of the whole thing.

I was just wondering if anyone had a similar situation, and if so, what they did to find out information about their family. thank you.

Use the "family story" as clues to go find the actual marriage and annulment documents. If you know where they were living when they got married, or where your grandfather was born, I would start with that county recorder and see if they have the marriage record. The annulment would be in the county court records. If the county they were living in doesn't have the records, check surrounding counties or if they lived near a border of a neighboring state, check the closest county of that state. Sometimes the neighboring state had different laws which made marriage easier.
With the family being so reluctant to talk about this, perhaps they are embarrased. Maybe they were never really married and your grandfather was born out of wedlock. It is a possibility, especially if you exhaust all resources and no marriage record is found. I have several instances of the baby being born well after the parents marriage, or the bride was very pregnant when she married. We like to think times were very different back then, but they really weren't that much.
Hope this helps a little.
Good luck.
Sherry

Are you trying to find out why the marriage was annulled? Or are you trying to find out the ancestry of one or other (or both) of your great grandparents?

I hope we can get in touch, because I'm almost certain we're related to you through Kutcher. I've messaged you on your profile and hope to get a response soon
