My gr gr grandfather was Josef Kutac. He was born in 1828 in Moravia (now a part of the Czech Republic, but back then it was part of the Austria-Hungarian Empire). He immigrated to Lavaca County, Texas with his wife, Viktoria Bujnoch Kutac and 3 sons, Joseph F. Kutach, Frank William Kutach, and William Kutach. I have a fairly complete line of descent from all three of these Kutach lines if this would be of any help. There are other Joseph Kutach's in two of the lines. Provide me with approx. dates and locations, perhaps I can help.

Joseph Steven Kutac was born Oct 12, 1901 in Lavaca, Tx. His fathers name was Frank J. Kutac and mother was Johanna Kutac. Joseph was married to Martha Ebner. Joseph died on Feb. 1967. They had 3 daughters: Mary Lee Jan.15,1923, Cyril Morzsak and Veronica Kutac. I think all of the is correct. Thank you for any information.

The St. Mary's Parish Book, Lavaca Co., Texas, (1840-1990) has a picture of Frank and Johanna Morris Kutac. It also indicates Frank (1851-1934) born in Ticha, Moravia, and immigrated in 1872. Johanna Morris (1858-1938), immigrated in 1859. It does not list Joseph Steven Kutac as a son, but perhaps that is an oversight. Both Frank and Johanna are buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Lavaca, Co., Texas. Hope this helps.

The "History of St. Mary's Parish" lists as one of its pioneer families, Frank and Frances (Jurecek) Bujnoch. The following is the information it lists:
Frank Bujnoch (1861-1898) and Frantiska (Jurecek) Bujnoch (1864-1918) lived on Smothers Creek in the St. Mary's Community. Both are buried in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Children born to this union are: Frank (1888-1965), who married Mary Munsch; Theofil (1895-1979), who served in World War I and married July 1920 to Emilie Janak; Victor F. (1898-1966), who married Vlasta R. Matula; Christina, who married Isidor Jalufka; Mary, who married John Janak; Karolina (1892-1970), who married Steve Kostelnik; Albina (1893-1962), who married Willie Broz; and Agnes (1897-), who married Willie T. Janak.

Becky, Wow! Thanks a whole bunch! That's exactly what I was trying to find out. Where is the St.Mary's book available? On the I-net? Do you have a copy of it? I have been in St.Mary's in Hallettsville, TX. many times. I am in Indiana now. My grandparents are all buried there. Bernice Hillman

Bernice, Happy I was able to help you out. The St. Mary's Parish Book, has a copyright of 1990 St. Mary's Church, Lavaca County, Texas. It was printed by: The Schulenburg Sticker, Schulenburg, Texas. It is titled History of St. Mary's Parish, Texas' Oldest Rural Church, Lavaca County, Texas, 1840-1990. My Mother gave me a copy of the book when she attended a Kutach Reunion in Halletsville, Texas. I'm really not sure from whom she purchased it. I would guess that you might be able to obtain one from St. Mary's Church. The Book was inspired by the St. Mary's Sesquicentennial Book Committee, Lou Kubena was the editor. It is really a great little book, it has many many pictures and really provides a great deal of history for the area. Additionally, Dorothy Bujnoch served on the Committee. I'm not sure if you are related, but perhaps I've given you some leads that you could follow up on. If I can be of further help, let me know. I've only been to Halletsvile once, last year in September to attend the Kutach Reunion and to do a little research in the Lavaca Co. Library and Court House. I also visited the Church and the Cemetery. My Gr. Gr. Grandparents are buried in the St. Mary's Cemetery there. I took pictures of the tombstones of Joseph Kutac and Viktoria Bujnoch Kutach. That is how I found where they immigrated from. The tombstone of Viktoria Bujnoch list Sykorec, Moravia as Birthplace. I've since found that they arrived at New Orleans on December 13, 1860 via the Ship Neptune. I wish you luck in your research. Currently, I'm trying to find information on Antonia Novobilsky, of Lavaca Co. She was my Great Grandmother who married Frank William Kutach, son of Joseph and Viktoria Kutach. She was born 1870, had 4 children and died in 1888. I've not been able to find where she was buried.

Thanks for all the info. Now I'm checking on my grandmother's side. She was Vlasta Matula from Hallettsville, TX. What we know is: her mother - Theresa Kutach, daughter of Frank Kutach. Could this be the same Frank Kutach, son of Joseph & Viktoria from ship Neptune in 1860?

Some more help for you

From the St. Mary's Parish Book:
Frank J. Kutach (1851-1934), born in Ticha, Moravia, came to America in 1872. He married Johanna (Morris) Kutach (1858-1938) who had come to the United States in 1859. Both lived at St. Mary's; they are buried there.
Children born to this union were: Theresia (Kutach) Matula; Agnes (Kutach)Volcik (1877-?); Frances (Kutach) Fojtik (1883-?); Louis Kutach (1885-?); Karolina (Kutach) Recek (1890-?); Julia (Kutach) Mican (1891-?);Johanna (Kutach) Opela; Adolf Kutach; John Kutach; and Albina (Kutach) Opela.

I'm going to send you some more information on the parents of Anton Matula whom Theresia Kutach Matula married in a separate message since it is quite long. It is also from the St. Mary's Parish Book.
