Hi!
No the test does not hurt at all. they give you this little vial to fill with saliva. It's that simple! You put this purple stuff in it to keep it preserved and they give you a self addressed package to send it to them--prepaid. It will take about 2 months to get any results.

I am so troubled trying to find records of my grandfather because so many names were used--and so many of them match--so who knows which one is really right! Plus on my grandfather's death certificate, you can see that "Edward Koss or Kon was first written and then changed to John Kus--weird? Do you know how old someone had to be to travel by themselves to America. I heard that his father traveled with him to Germany to take the boat, but I think he went by himself and had to lie about his age. How could he do that without changing a birth certificate?

Hi,
Thank you for the information about the DNA. I should already do something about it.
I see you have found yet one more surname KUSIAK in the US documents.

159 KUSIAKs in www.ellisislandrecords.org
http://www.moikrewni.pl/mapa/kompletny/kusiak.html
http://www.moikrewni.pl/mapa/kompletny/kon.html
http://www.moikrewni.pl/mapa/kompletny/ko%25C5%2584.html

Not 100% sure but 15 might be the age to travel by themselves. No lying about age since the ancestor had to present a document to the shipping clerk.

....Plus on my grandfather's death certificate,...

I would not put much into the information on a death certificate being correct. I would go more with a church marriage record and church baptismal record.

Hi Zlatica,
As usual thanks for all your info. Some of the sights that you send me are in Polish (I think) and I can't read it--guess I have to have an interpreter...this is not easy! I cannot find a marriage certificate for my grandparents in ancestry.com?! Not under my grandmother or grandfather--yet I have beautiful pictures of them taken by a photographer--odd...In Wane County the only way to get a certificate is to mail in to them--pay for it--and IF they have one they will mail it to you. It just doesn't seem as if I should have that much trouble finding that. As for a baptismal certificate. My grandmother would have been baptized Catholic in Michigan--don't know what church--how would I locate something like that? My grandfather would have been baptized somewhere in Poland though...

Take care, Pam

Hi Pam,
Nothing complicated to the surname distribution site. I'm only trying to show that to proceed with research you need to have a precise location as well as a surname.

I see that you have been posting on other boards, hope those people come and reply to you but I do feel you need to post a query on Michigan and Wayne county Ancestry board. Those 2 boards should help in trying to find a church marriage record, state marriage application and church baptismal record. No certificate ever contains a place of birth.

Please revisit your old or original postings and reread them. I know I found them yesterday but this morning they elude me.

well, here I am with another question...I posted a message today and the subject was Joseph and Anna Kusiak. I was so excited because I really think I may have found a relative--a first cousin to be exact. Now I came home from work and tried to find that message I put out there and I can't find it.

How do I find messages that I have written? Exactly where do I go or what do I type in to find what I have written?

I was so excited--now I don't know if I should try to post this again. What should I post Joseph and Anna Kusiak message under?

Thank you once again...I hope that someone answers it. I had this feeling before, but things got confusing and in the end I didn';t think that things matched up--maybe I was wrong.

You are a life saver. I work so much that I don't have time to really learn this program and "threads" and things, so I get confused--thanks for being there to help out.
