Frederick Charles Kurtz (b 1869 Germany) married Mary Jane Hale (b 1862 Plaistow) in 1889 in Walthamstow, Essex. Children that I know of are Frederick Ludwig, Samuel John, Mary Jane (aka Queenie?), John Henry, Rupert Karl, Thomas, Albert, Lillian and George. Family tradition states that Frederick Ludwig was the oldest of 12, 2 girls and 10 boys, so it appears that I'm missing a few of the boys.

Frederick Charles had siblings Henry, William, Adam, Adolph, and Ludwig. Possibly also Maria, Charles, and Albert, these are not confirmed. Parents were Johann Heinrich Kurtz (1823-1900) and Juliana (1824-1881). Spouses surnames are found in surname list.

I've also found information for other Kurtz/Kurz families from Germany living in England, including Benjamin (Islington), Andreas (Carshalton), Christian (Lambeth and Battersea) and Andreas (Lancashire), not sure if they're related.

I'm looking for other Kurtz relatives, willing to share information. I'm told that some changed their surname to Curtis, some to Short, to avoid anti-German sentiment in WWI.

My grandmother was Clara Kurz. Her father was Herman Phillip Kurz who was born in 1882 in Carroll, Iowa. His father was Henry Kurtz who was born about 1839 in Germany. He married Johanna Janssen who was born in Zenten, Germany. They had at least 11 children: Hattie, Stella, William Peter, Henry Fredrick, Gertrude and Johanna Kurtz all born in Germany. Herman, Marg, Aloysius, Henry Fredrick and Alice were born in Carroll, Iowa. Somewhere along the line my great grandfather became Herman H. Kurz. Herman Kurz married my great grandmother, Zeline.
