my grandparents and my parents talked Slovonia (sp?)
I am going to try and answer all your ?'s on this note.

I do have a copy of my grandfather George Kuranko, Sr.
S.S. application. my father was George Kuranko, Jr.
neither of them had a middle name.
on the S.S. application he list his last age as 64, then his birthdate and then"Cebini" (Czfcnoslovakia)
(I am not sure if the "C" is a really letter "C" or it's a "("
then it's zr or maybe it's za or ZFC then above it was ?40or H-O or m-o then it continutes on with slovakia.
this app. was dated 22 july 1937 and signed of course by him.
yes, this app. is the ss-5 form.

I have never heard or found any information that he applied for naturalize papers. when anyone in the family would ask about the "old country" and his life...he would get very mad at us and tell us not to ask nor talk about old country. he acted like he was afraid someone was going to come and get him or ? a secret he took to his death with him.

I did find at one time a couple of Kurankos that came to US but they went to NY and apparently stayed there.
as far as I know my grandfather went straight to Pa to work in the coal mines. He was 17 when he came to this county.

He met my grandmother in Pa...but maybe the two families knew each other in the "old country". or maybe he just met her in PA, as her father was a coal minner in the same town.

It seems what I posted it is the place that you should be searching.
Up to 1918 the records would say Austria or Hungary. After the fall of the empire several new countries were formed and one was Czechoslovakia which in 1993 separated into Czech Republic and Slovak Republic. That is what you have in that misspelled name of a country which I will not be typing it out.

Was your grandfather Greek Catholic / Byzantine Catholic?
Cebini sounds like Cabiny.
The LDS-Mormons (Family History Center) website is listing Greek Catholic church records of Vysne Cabiny. You can order the films and gather ancestral information off of them.
www.bmi.net/jjaso to familiarize yourself with church wording.

We do not use middle name in Slovak Republic. So far no need for them. Different system of paperwork.

Andras Kuranko was going to Renovo, Pa and Janos Kuranko was going to Delancey Pa. Both of them passed thru Ellis Island. You can check out their manifests. You do need to register, no money is involved.
