Surnames: Kunkle, Kungle, Kunkel
As Kunkle children (and young adults), we were told that Kunkle was the Americanized version of kungle, which meant "shuttle" (of a loom). In fact, my great grandfather and one of his sons kept the -gle spelling while the rest of the family morphed to -kle/ Can any German scholars/speakers resolve this for us?
