Looking for information about Otto Kunath Born 1808, Married to Rosalie Kunath Born 1825. Both from Chemnitz, Saxony Germany came to the US possibly 1840-1841 and settled in Ontanogon county Mich.
I cannot find any passenger or immigration records for them and do not know which port they arrived by. They are my great great great grandparents and want to start research about their immigration.

Otto KUNATH and Rosalie (Rosalia?) SOHR were also my great great great grandparents. Unfortunately, I do not have any information on their immigration. I have not been able to do as much research as I would like lately. BUT I did go to the Michigan Library site and found that Otto's Naturalization Record is available there in the Michigan Archives. The record is in Ontonagon Co, Vol. 10, P. 60. You can request copies for a fee. Try this site: http://www.michigan.gov/hal/0,1607,7-160-17449_18635---,00.h... If that doesn't work, just go to www.michigan.gov/hal and work your way to the genealogy stuff. Anyway, I'm writing to say that I would be interested in anything you find, and would be glad to hear of your line from Otto & Rosalie. I'm descended from their son, Otto Charles KUNATH and wife Katherine GRONES. Their son Norman KUNATH and wife Catherine RAMSAY had Henry Paull KUNATH, my grandfather. Many blessings on your research!

t his is WILd! ! ! my friend, had a mother, named Gertrude Rosalie Kunath, and she was as follows: Wife: Gertrude Rosalie Kunath Born: 22 Feb 1887 Northwood , IA, per obit Died: 24 Jan 1981 Council Bluffs, IA Buried Ridgewood Cemetery Parents: ? think they lived at What Cheer , Ia. married to Warren:? They met at Mason City, IA. We think that Gertrude had three brothers: Forest Earl Kunath and Adolf “Aide” Kunath. Seems to have lived around Des Moines, Ia, and ‘Earl’ was a senior, having a son named for him. This son worked at Des Moines Steel for day job, and had a band on the side, playing bass drum, called “Earl K’s Band.’ A third brother, Sumner Kunath, had a son named Lane Kunath, with whom John exchanged short wave radio talk, and Lane lived in Spencer, Iowa.

Rebecca, Sounds like Gertrude could be it, but some stuff isn't quite jiving--I have her as Mrs. Cecil Cronin, however, she may have been married earlier to ? Spalti (Spaldi?) . I do not know anything about her. Here are some newspaper clippings from 1953 that may help you shed light on her some more.

Have you found anything on immigration, Jim? I located a Michigan Land Record for Otto--he purchased land from the Federal government, certificate signed Feb 10, 1854 (152 years ago today!)
I also found on a census (1860, I believe) which says his son Otto Charles (my GG grandfather) was born in Wisconsin in Sept 1850. So Kunaths made it to Michigan AFTER living in Wisconsin. Maybe Wisconsin has some immigration information.
Otto must have died between 1860 & 1870. He is not on 1870 census, but Rosalie is. Otto C. is 19 and living in Houghton, MI.
Rosalie then marries Henry Kothe (not sure of last name, but indexed on 1880 census that way) and lives in Austin, MN. Otto C. also living in Austin, MN in 1880 and has several children.

I am the Lane you refer to. Just found this site. My father, Sumner, wasn't a third brother as you state. His only brother was Otto,(Massachussets) He had sisters, Helen & Cleo. I don't recall talking to a John Kunath on radio. My call is WA0DOY. My father's father was Herman. He was a jeweler in Spencer starting in 1881. My father bought him out, and I was a watchmaker also. Hope to get info on where/when immigration took place.
Thanks.
Lane

My knowledge of the family tree is a bit different- different names and such. For instance, my great grandfather was Otto Jr, who married twice (Vada and another, I can't remember her name) and had 7 children, I think. They hunkered down in Illinois. One of his sons from his second marriage, Henry Kunath, is my grandfather and I learned a decent amount of information from his sister, Elizabeth. Don't know how many Otto Kunaths immigrated from Germany around the late 1800's, but maybe our great great grandparents are the same!
