Walter C. Kulak, 90, passed away, Monday, (December 8, 2003) at New Britain General Hospital. Walter was born in New Britain on July 7, 1913 and was the son of the late William and Sophie Kulak. A resident of New Britain for 49 years, he moved to Newington in 1962. He served with the US Army in World War II and the Merchant Marines. Walter retired from Fafnir Bearing Company and D&L Department Stores after a career spanning more than 40 years. An avid gardener, collector and "tinkerer" and cherished father, he will be missed and remembered lovingly. Walter is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and James Yurewitch of New Britain; his daughter, Arlene Walenski of Farmington; his daughter, Sharon Paternostro of East Haddam; his stepdaughter, Susan Martin and her husband of Vermont; his brother, John Kulak of New Britain; his granddaughter, Karen Guasp; and great grandson, Ryan Guasp of New Britain; numerous nieces and nephews; and his dear companion, Tuki. Walter was predeceased by his wife, Gloria (Pellegrini) Kulak, brothers, Edward, Joseph, Vincent and Stanley Kulak, his sisters, Helen Raia, Anna Yurko and Stella Saraceneo, his son-in-law, Carl Paternostro and former wife, Anne Marie (Wodecki) Choma. There are no calling hours. A graveside service with full Military Honors will be held Monday, December 15, at 10 a.m. in West Meadow Cemetery, Willard Ave., Newington. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Disabled Veterans Association, 35 Cold Spring Rd., Rocky Hill, CT 06067 or the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd., Newington, CT 06111. He is my relative. His parents came to America from the Dabrowa Bialostocka area.
