It is my understanding that Kula is a real common name in Poland. My ancestors are from there but I can't trace them beyond the Loop city and Columbus Nebraska area.

The Kula portion of my family migrated from Oswiecim, Poland. It's likely a lot of people with the surname "Kula" came from that area, especially around Krakow...I am not entirely sure, but it could be possible. Most of my family migrated before World War I, when Austria still "owned" the area.

My great-grandmother, Ludwika KULA, married Stanislaw Kaluza in Poland before their arrival in South Omaha, Nebraska. Her sister, Anna KULA, married Jozef Buras and settled in South Omaha, also. I believe they married in Poland, too.

I don't know much about their life in Poland, but I would love to find out. I understood that Ludwika and Stanislaw came from near Krakow. Do you know whether our Kula families may be kin? I didn't know that they had family near Loup City, but it is possible.

Try looking at the Leki Gorne area in Poland as well, many kula's from there wound up in NE.
