I'm not sure that my family is related to this line, but thought I would ask anyway. My Kula's as far as I can trace them came from Austria in about 1919 starting with Paul Kula,b.1881 in Poland, and his son Emil b.1908 in Hazlok, Austria, died 1985 in Oregon. Later Paul's wife Susna also born in Austria(various spellings) came, their children were Emil later changed his name to Edward McCoy, this is my grandfather, Genevive, Helen, Frank b1916 in N. Dakota, died 1998 in Oregon, Cecilia, and Mary J. Any names sound familiar?? I know the family was in Wisconsin in the
1920 & 1930 census.
I'm new to this genealogy so hope this posting is correct.
if you wish you may email me at bdaniels@televar .com
Thank you & anyone for any help with this family line.

Hi, was thrilled to receive your post re: Kula family. I have had much difficulty tracing this family. From what I can remember, even my grandmother did not know much about her ancestors. But, she was only 20 years old when the family moved south to Alabama. She knew more about her father's family. I'm sure there must be some relation between our families due to the fact that they usually settled in the same area when they came to the US. One problem I have identified is that so many changed their names completely; not just a variation in the spelling! For example, Hurd was changed to Mike. I haven't had time to devote to searching the Wisconsin or Iowa Archives but I believe this would help us in our research. I'm so far away from that part of the country; I know there are descendants out there somewhere! I haven't even been able to find when my Kula family arrived in the US. I know it was in the early 1800's due to census reports. Or how they ended up in SD? There was a Joseph Kula whose name keeps popping up, I figures he was the patriarch of the family. Like so many cultures, they passed names down to the younger generations. I know the Bohemian and Czech cultures were a colorful lot! Please keep in touch and I'll do the same. Off to work...

Thanks so much for your reply to my inquiry. You have wonderful information! I have to admit that I haven't had much time to spend on this family surname but I find your response so interesting. The fact that you mention Wisconsin and South Dakota among your ancestors led me to believe we just may have hit on something here. My Great-grandmother, Barbara Kula, parents from Bohemia, had a sister, Kate, that lived in Texas and I couldn't explain how she got to Texas? And you mention the port of arrival as being Galveston, Texas! So, how would they have gotten all the way to SD? I have attached a link with photos and some very limited information and dates on our town history website, you may want to check it out. Barbara Kula Philips had a brother named Albert Kula. I really have no other siblings but I have a feeling there would have been. I understand that Barbara was born in Wisconsin about 1871. The census reports give good info but there's just not enough time in the day! You may just get me going again on the Kula family! Thanks again....

I am the grandaughter of Frank Kula. Born 1916 in Leed, South Dakota and passed in 1998 from a fall after logging. He lived and logged in Crescent City, CA. This is where I live now along with my Aunt Sheila Kula who has lived here her entire life and also my Uncle Frank Kula. My dad was Pat Kula and he passed in 1969 from a water skiing accident. I am very interested in the Kula name and just getting started. My Aunt has alot of pics and info and I am going to be doing some research on our family. I will keep you posted!! Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi,
So glad to see your post...my great-uncle Frank Kula never married but the Kula name is rare and I was told they all originated from the same region in Bohemia...I haven't had time to devote to my research lately (sick mother and then her death) so I'm anxious for this year to be less stressful and allow me to get back into my research. Here is a site where I posted some photos and info that I have; you may find something to connect us in here: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~alcsilve/wilson5.html
Good luck with your research and please keep in touch!

Browsing on the internet and found these communications.
I know very little about the Kula descendants. My interest has been more in the ancestry.
Franz, or Frantisek, and Marie Kula were the progenitors of most if not all of the Kula’s that existed in Iowa in the 19th century and probably the early 20th century.
The arrived in Linn County in 1856. I have their ancestry dating back to the early 1700’s and just now am assembling the data. For a variety of reasons it will take a few more months to get it organized. If you are interested let me know.
