The "Russia" of old was large empire. How sure are you that he came from 'Russia" and lets say that he was Russin/Rusyn - Ruthenian?
Birds of a feather fly together.

KUSZWARAs arriving NY Ellis Island were from historical Galicia.Austria.

Do you have your Andrew KUHAR's arrival manifest?
Do you have his church marriage record? When was he born?
Was he naturalized citizen? Any draft registration form? The key to research is the
ancestor's Place of Birth.

arr. NY Ellis Island/
Kuhar, Andras 33 1863 1896 But this KUHAR came as Andras aka Hungarian first name for Andrew.

My husband's family came from Johnstown PA. My husband's name is Nicholas John Kuhar Jr. His father's name was Nicholas John Kuhar. HIS father's name was Andrew Kuhar. He was around 45 years old when he married my husband's grandmother, Mary Catherine Laco. Together they had 4 children, Mary Catherine, Nicholas, Michael, and Marge. . . . .

your husband and going backwards generation thru generation gathering documents.
You know where your husband Nicholas John KUHAR, jr. was born, baptized and who are his parents.
Do you have church baptismal record and marriage record on Nicholas John KUHAR? I would think that the baptismal record would have his parents place of birth.
Andrew KUHAR married Mary Catherine LACO? What is on his church marriage record?

Through ancestry.com and also the DNA, I traced the family roots in Johnstown to St Johns the Baptist Orthodox church and the St Johns Cemetery and was in contact with another user who was very helpful. Some to most of the original Kuhars in Johnstown are buried there. I called the church, spoke with the priest (or father). He seemed fairly interested, told me to put into writing everything I had and send it up. I did so with a donation to the church, that was in September, and haven't heard a word. I realize that is not the purpose of the church's work so I didn't want to bother anyone. We currently have no plans on going up there as we both work, but it would be really neat to see what information is at that church on the Kuhar family. I know that Olga Kuhar is buried there, she is my husband's grandfather's daughter from his first wife Helen. I believe she was adopted by other Kuhars in the family. Did you read the obituary on Andrew Kuhar I posted? I have been unsuccessful in tracing any of the children from his first marriage except for Olga. Thanks for responding and your interest in this thread. If I can fill more of the gaps in Johnstown I think I can go further back. The user bpozun who matched my husband's dna thinks the families originated in Hyrowa Austria Galicia or something like that. I have attached Andrew's death certificate as well as his obituary, thanks again!

You're welcome Jewel.
If you have Ancestry, you can contact me thru the board - envelope symbol. We can correspond that way, if you like.
I take it you have looked at the other posts from me.

May I suggest you post a query on the Pennsylvania's board and county board.

Unfortunately, nothing in the obituary or death certificate.
I would not pay "much" attention to Russia on a death certificate.
He attended Russian Orthodox church for a variety reason.
Please try to follow up with the church.
