I am researching the Coohon family that settled in St. Joseph co. Michigan. From old marriage licenses and naturalization papers (these show original spelling) I know the name was change when they got to the US. Christopher Coohon 1801-1871 came with at least one son, John C. to this area. John C. married Lena Thromp and had at least 4 children;
1.William who married Sophie Caroline Luise Borgert
2.Mary who married Fred Borgert
3.Hannah who married Fred Broker
4.Charles who married Reka Stoldt
Any information on this family would be appreciated. I'll be happy to share what I have. Thanks Chris

Hello,

It seems that we have a similar dilemma. My gg-grandmother's name was Wilhelmina Kuhagen. She emmigrated from Prussia and settled in Wisconsin. The trouble is, that I have seen it spelled Kuhagen, Kuhan, or Kohangen and can't seem to find any sort of lead. Do you know where your Kuhagen's came from? Maybe it will give me somewhere to start.

Thanks,

Tony

Hi Tony,
My GGgrandfather was John Christ Kuhhagen, when the family came here they spelled it Coohon (just one more spelling for you) He was born in Grammatine, Prussia, Germany 2-27-1834. I know his father came here too(Christopher b.1801 d.1871). On John C's death certificate it listed his mother as ?? Ruthers. 2 of his daughter's marriage licenses spelled the last name Kuhhagen and that is where I got this spelling. I am really having trouble with this family and would love to "join forces" with you. My Coohon/Kuhhagens settled in St. Joseph County, MI. Sound like any connection? e-mail me direct at Jeffhaas2@aol.com
Hope to hear from you.
Chris

I have another possible spelling. Mine came from the Wohlmirstadt region of Sachen-Anhalt,Germany. It is possible that they immigrated to northern Illinois (Boone County) or Waushara County, WI but can't be sure yet. I am still trying to trace them in these regions but the surname must have numerous spellings which makes it difficult.

Wow. It's been a long time since this was posted so I have no idea if you will see it. Has anyone been in touch with you about the Coohon Family? Coohon and Borgerts were very much intertwined and I have info on both families. If you get this let me know. I will be happy to share any info I have. Chris
