I am from a line of Kugels that can be traced back maybe two generations, at best, in Chicago, IL. Elsie & Oliver Kugel lived in a German community in Chicago and had three sons in the 1940s: Peter, Owen (my father), and Roger.
Perhaps this is a shot in the dark, but just wanted to see if I could find some long lost cousins from overseas, etc.

I was adopted at a young age and have recently found out my real last name. My grandfather came from Germany around 1915 or so. His name was Paul Kugel. They settled near Milwaukee, Wi. I am trying to find any info on this name from Germany and origins. I have uncovered some info, even possibly some name changes.

I am looking for a David Kugle who was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany in 1976-1978ish.

I'm researching my family surname: Cougle. Ancestors lived in northern NJ at the time of the American revolution. it has been suggested that Cougle is anglicized from Kugel. Does anyone have any information on this.

For no good reason I thought of Owen the other day, and thought I would try to Google him. It worked. The town is Brookfield, home of the world famous zoo. Your dad and I were good friends when we were kids growing up in the 50's, my grandparents house was between us. I hope he is well. Got to ran Christmas you know.

Thankyou for the reply to my query. In my case my ancestor John Cougle of New Jersey was an officer in the American revolution and was native born in either Pennsylvania or New Jersey about 1746. Therefore if he was of German extraction it was an earlier generation. No doubt some people with the surname Cougle are of Germanic background and are not directly related to my family branch.

You may already know this by now. Two Cowgill (Cougle) families came from a village called Settle in Yorkshire England. They arrived in North America on William Penn's ships settling first in one of his colonies in Pennsylvania. They were very prolific, moved from colony to colony. Two Cougle brothers (one of whom was Captain John) and their families settled in southern New Brunswick as Loyalists following the American revolution. Other Cougle families remained in the US.
