I am looking for more information on my grandfather (Joseph Kuffel), and his birth family. The 1900 census for Wisconsin, Portage County, Town of Sharon shows his family as: Koofel (sic) John M Aug 1840 Mar 20 yrs Ger Poland immigrated in 1870 farmer Paulina F Oct 1857 Mar 20 yrs Ger Poland immigrated in 1870 Frank son M Oct 1881 S Wisconsin day laborer John son M Dec 1886 S Wisconsin day laborer Joseph son M Aug 1889 S Wisconsin Felix (Leo?) son M ? 1890 S Wisconsin Visenscia (Veronica?) dtr F June 1891 S Wisconsin Franciska dtr F May 1893 S Wisconsin
Joseph, and Leo lived most of their adult lives in Milwaukee and died there. I have rather complete information on Joseph's family in Milwaukee.
The 1880 census (same location) shows three older children--Ignats (9), Phillip (6), and Maryann (9 mos).
I think Paulina's maiden name was Lobricka, or Lorbicky, or Lorbiecki. Trying to trace her line, and the parents' entry into US.

Bob, I just saw your post on Ancestry.com. I am looking for Kuffel's also. I am not sure but we may have a connection. I am related to Paul and Elizabeth Kuffel. A John Kuffel and family was enumerated with them in the 1870 census. I don't know if he is a son or brother etc. This could be your John if he remarried. The Mary Zitka listed living there also is a daughter of Paul and Elizabeth. I descend through the Charles Kuffel listed. I have also found the name as Kuffal, Kufel, Kufahl, Koffel, etc.and most recently in the 1880 census as COOFAL. This makes things hard to trace! I have a little more but not much as I have just started researching this family. Let me know if you want to coordinate research. Thanks, Carrie Taylor

Carrie, I think it's unlikely that the John KUFFEL you found in Iowa County is my John KUFEL. Subsequent to my last posting, I found numerous documents in the church records of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Polonia WI. John's first wife was Magdalena PIECZKA; she died, date unknown. He remarried Pauline LORBIECKI in 10 Jan 1876, and she died in 1909. Their children were born and baptized in Polonia; several of them married there. My John died there in 1925. I believe that my John came to the US during the 1870's. I'll keep your family in mind while I continue my search. Good luck to you. Bob

Anna Kuffel married an Unknown Dobiesz and is buried in the a Kuffel plot at St. Adalbert Catholic Cemetery, Niles, IL.

Just wondering if your John Kufel was somehow related to a Simon Kufel? He lived in Michigan. I have John Kufel listed as Simon's father.

Cathy,
I have come across the name Simon Kufel in my research but don't know if there is any link to my family. It doesn't seem likely at this point. Sorry, and good luck with your search!
