I saw your post from years ago below. I'm helping a friend of mine research his family tree. Do you have any connections in your database to his family? See his outline below message. Louis Kuicker or Kuecker is the 2nd great grandfather of Michael L. Steinbrink.

Pam, I just ran across your post on Fred Kuecker and Caroline Stade. They were my great grandparents. My grandmother Jessie Hattie was their daughter. There were more than 4 siblings. Fred was 26 when they got married and Lena was 16. He would have been born approx 1854, and I have run across a ships list where a Fredrich Kueker arrived in 1856 at age2. Haven't been able to c onfirm if he is actually the same Fred.
You note that your dad changed the spelling of the name, would you happen to know why? My grandmother long ago mentioned something about a 'disagreement' of some sort and that some of the Kueckers had changed the spelling of their name. Sue Wallenius

Sue, great news. I have lost the trail of Fred after the 1880 census. I find Lena in 1900 as a widow. I would like to tie him to my family. I have done a lot of research on mine and the other Kuker families and would love to compare to see if there is a fit.

Our family was from Gadesbunden.

I know of a several stories of spelling changes. One, I believe was because one widow married her husband's brother and they changed the name to separate the children. That wasn't our reason. My dad found people mispronounced it and only did it for convenience.

Please send a note to my e-mail: burnell@alltel.net. Looking forward to discussing more.

Pam

Hello,
I'm pretty sure that the Caroline Stade that you mention is the sister of my great grandfather, Herman Stade.

Caroline was the daughter of Caroline Schultz (b. 10 Jul 1842 in Prussia, d. 28 Sept 1910 in Cook Co. Illinois) and Christian Stade (b. Nov 1842 in Prussia, d. Oct 1909 in Cook Co. Illinois).

Caroline (known as Lena) was the oldest of 12 children, born in aprox. 1864

The immigration record that I have shows that Christ and Caroline Stade left Hamburg, Germany 1872 on the Holsatia and arrived in New York on Nov 7, 1872, with their 5 oldest children.

Please let me know if you would like additional information on Caroline(Lena)'s sibling.

If you are interested in more on Caroline & Fred let me know. Thanks Sue

Hello, I just happened to come by this post & I believe that I have some information that you may find interesting/useful-that is if you haven't already found this information since your post in 2003. Your paternal grandfather's name was Arthur H. Kuecker. He was married twice, the first marriage produced your father and his brother George. When his wife passed away he remarried when the boys were young. That marriage produced two more children - another brother (the uncle 'Wendy' that you mention) and one sister. Art outlived his second wife as well, as she passed on February 1993. Art passed away in March of 1998. You & your brother Brett were listed as surviving grandchildren in the memorial, even though no one had had any contact with you or knew where you were. I hope it gives you some small comfort to know that you were remembered and thought of. Yes,I'm sorry, but your Dad did pass away in Alaska in the early 1980's.
Although the KUECKER name is German your Dad wasn't born in Germany. I think he was born in Tacoma, WA. Sadly George passed away in 2002, his wife in 2006 and eldest son in about 1982-3.George was in the Army and did serve in Germany, where he met his future wife. Your father's two remaining siblings are alive and relatively well. I hope this has helped you, at least somewhat.
