Hi.

In with my grandmother's things I found a poem, titled "A Fatal Wedding" hand written by Joseph E (I think) Kuechler dated 189-.

The stationary it's written on is Alexender Theatre in Wausau, Wisconsin.

Is this yours? I don't have all of it, just two of the three stanzas. Let me know. I would be interested in knowing what the second one is.

With grace,
Cris Robins
cris_robins@hotmail.com

hi, again.
I've been trying to figure this out and collect my info, but it appears that my great grandmother's name was Wilhelmine Amalia Kuechler, married name Schubert, from Obersohland, Saxony. I have some info but it is in pretty clumsy form, plus I don't handle boards like this very confidently, so if you wish, you can e-mail me you address at writerjamie@gmail.com and I will send the enclosure.

good luck to us all.
Jamie M

I wrote you a while back about Kuechlers in Chicago and then found my Jacob Fred Kuechler born 1829 was from Langen, Province of Itghem,Darnstadt (Hesse-Darnstedt today). I think Sohland is in the vicinity of above and believe they were Lutheran. He married Magdalena Schaefer about 1855-60 and came over here in 1867-68 with a couple of kids. Do you have access to that church? I lost the address you gave me and do they have an email and lookup?
Thanks, Marge Olson
Sectimerdo@aol.com

Hello Jamie, this is Vicky, Susan's cousin. Have you and I exchanged emails before? Do you show a Lushinsky in your collateral family lines?
I am fascinated with your information here and it is worth our comparing notes on this.
Our Carl Kiichler/Kuechler returned to Sohland after immigrating to USA. He left his wife and children in USA. This would suggest he still had a place to return to in Sohland and I wonder if he had more grown children still in Sohland. Please feel free to contact me directly also: vlouise_@hotmail.com.
Thank you for your posting and I wish you greatest success in your travels. I have not been contacted by a DeAnna either. Please followup with me and/or Susan!
Sincerely,
Vicky
Wow, I had forgotten about this post!

Wonder if everyone that left the Sohland area ended up in Plattsmouth? There is such repetition of names for that time period, hard to tell if we would have a connection or not, but there is a possibility. There were 2 other brothers on the Richter side that came over but don't know their names, possible these relatives of yours are on the Keuchler side.
And no kidding about the Karl/Carl! Not to mention August, Auguste, Amalie, Paul/Pauline!

Do you know the names of any other relatives that came over?

My great grandmother Nettie, daughter of Auguste Kuechler Richter married a Macy and moved to Wyoming. Another favorite state for these guys was Oregon.

I do believe the graveyard is attached to the church but not positive. Usually they were, so I would think it is still. A lot of graves are no longer there, they are re-used after a certain amount of time due to land shortage, but the records are amazing!

Have not heard from anyone named DeAnna, too bad, she may have information that would help. With my research I have found about 4 cousins, it's great!

Susan

I'm five years late, but I came upon this thread and wondered how far you had followed it up. We may have the opportunity to stop in Sohland in early April, and it there is any trace of the family there, such as gravestones, it would be good to see it.

Here's one bit of a note i wrote myself:

In 1 June 1868, Carl Gottlob Heinrich Schubert, weaver from Pfarrwiedemuth,
married Wilhelmine Amalie Kuechler of Pfarrwiedemuth.
The wedding was held at Sohland.

Other than that half the men in Sohland and thereabouts seem to have been named Karl, this appears to have been my great-grandparents. they came to the US shortly after 1881, and were briefly in Plattsmouth, Nebraska before moving on to Wyoming, where they both are buried.

do you have a clue whether there is a cemetery attached to the church?

I have a cousin DeAnna who has done something with this but I have forgotten her last name now. Perhaps you encountered her.

thanks for any comments

Good to hear from you again. Did your Lewis or Gustav come to Chicago? Where are you located? I know there were some Kuechlers in St. Louis, Mo. area. I don't have any other info on my Jacob Fred Kuechler except what I posted. I am looking for 2 sisters who were Herths and mother was sister to my grandmother Margaretha Kuechler Heim. I did some other Kuechlers at the same church in Chicago-St. Jacobi's (now St. James) Luth. Church in Chicago in their old neighborhood. I am going to email the church again for more info. so if you think they might have been in Chicago, I can find out for you.

marge

I found my great grandfather (Jacob Kuechler death certificate which tells me he came from Langen, the Province of Itghem, Darnstadt, Empire of Germany, which I believe is Hesse Darnstadt now. He was born about the 26th of July, 1829 and died July 18, 1889 in Chicago, IL. He was married in Germany to Magdalena Schaefer from Offenberg, Baden-Wurttemburg who was born in 1830 and they came over in 1868 with at least 6 children so must have been married in the late 1850s. My grandmother, Margaretha Kuechler Heim was born in 1870 in Chicago. They lived in Chicago, Lincoln Park area at 339 Clveland Ave.

Can anyone connect to the place of origin of Langen, Darnstadt?
Rich,

Jennie and Jim had no children. Don't know when Jim died but it was probably in the early 1940's. I will check with my uncle. Although he is now 90 years old, he does remember a lot of the family history.

Jennie had a cousin (Minnie) that also lived in Denville NJ. I believe that Jennie was close to Minnie and also Minnie's daughter Peggy. Peggy married Richard Docen and moved from NJ to Florida. Eventually Jennie "retired" to Florida (St. Petersburg) and remained close to Peggy and her family until her death around 1960. I don't know what happend to the Docen's in Florida, but if you can find them -- they might be able to help with the Kendall side of the family.
From your name, I'm guessing you're related to Jim's brother(s). Please let me know your relationship to Jim, as my uncle will be very interested to know who is inquiring. I'd also like to figure out how we are related. Jennie was actually my "great" aunt and Jim would have been my great uncle although I never knew him. What is your relationship to them? I'm thinking we may be 2nd or 3rd cousins. It's a little difficult to explain to a 90-year old about the internet and message boards, etc. But I'm sure he will be really amazed to think a long, lost relative has surfaced and is interested in the family history.
Once I get more information, I'll let you know.

Barbara

These names are all familiar to me. My ggrandmother was Ida Baumgarten. I believe the name Kuechler was "americanized" when she came to the US. She had a daughter, Jennie and a son Walter. Walter was my grandfather. Walter Kuchler married Mabel Beckmann and had four children -- Walter, Harold, Arthur and Dorothy (my mother). I have many cousins on the Kuchler side. Walter had 3 children (Walter jr., Mary and Dorsey), Harold had 6 children (Billy, Raymond, Ruth, Mary, Regina and Helen). Dorothy had 2 (my brother Kenneth and myself). Arthur never married and had no children. I was told that Ida settled in Jersey City upon arriving from Germany. She bought the house in Denville as a summer place. She later winterized the house and lived there permanently. Her cousin Minnie also had a house in the same area. The house was on Indian Lake and I spent many summers there.
I'm not familiar with the Kendall side of the family. I was told Jim Kendall (my aunt Jennie's husband) had died. I never knew him.
Hope this helps.

I just found out my Fred Kuechler was really a Jakob or Jacob born in either 1839 or possibly 1829. I found his death in the St. James Luth. Church records in Chicago. I still don't know where he was buried. I don't know where he came from in Germany but I do know he married the gr. grandmother, Magdalena Schaeffer in approx. 1855 and she was from Malburg, Baden. I don't know what church they were married in, but she was christened Katholisch. So if you find a Jakob/Jacob, that's my guy.
Hello Marge,
My cousin Susan and I do not know if our Kuechler/Kiichler/Keichler family was related to the Kuechler people that you have asked us about who lived in Chicago. To the best of my knowledge neither our patriach Charles/Karl nor his son Karl were ever in Chicago. I have sent to you our Keichler family outline and as you could see from that information there is no apparent connection to the Kuechler's you mention. I see similarities in the given names but they seem to have been common.
Have you heard back from the Solhand Lutheran Church that Susan and I gave you the address? I think if we have a connection, it will be more apparent once we find supporting evidence from the church or community records.
I am sorry I cannot help you further on the Chicago people but I have no records or leads that would remotely support our family of Kuechler/Kiichler/Keichler's having been related to the ones you mention or that they were ever connected to Chicago.
If you find that your Chicago people have connections to Nebraska or were possibly related to our Nebraska people, please let us know.
Vicky

Thanks Vicky for answering so quickly. Yes I got the date to America wrong. It should have been 1868 and my grandmother, Margaretha was born in 1870. Her mother, Magdalena Schaeffer was born about 1930 (she was almost 10 yrs. older than Fred) and she came from Baden. I can go back on her side thru her father Jacob Schaefer and mother Magdalena Higel thru www.Familysearch.org but I don't know anything about Fred except in the 1880 census in Chicago and they spell it Kechler and I have official papers in the 1900s that show Kuechler so who knows.

I will write to that church and let you know. I am trying a church in Chicago too but no answer yet.

Thanks, Marge

My great-grandmother's maiden name was Johanna Christiane Wendschuh. I'd like to explore a connection with the mother of Maria Pauline Kuechler born Oct 28, 1867. Thanks.

Kuechler Family

I also am researching the Kuechler family who seem to be quite elusive! My husband's family is from Allegheny Co., PA and I find Louis J. Kuechler married to Henrietta Wiederholt. It appears Louis was born about 1840 and comes from Hesse Darmstadt, although this is conjecture. There was a son named Emil among several other children. Just can't make any headway.

There are many Kuechler's in Dudenhofen a town not far from Darmstadt, Germany. Two Kuechler brothers from Dudenhofen who were cousins of my grandmother emigrated 1872/1874 to St.Louis.

You should ask for the first name of your Kuechler ancestor.

A Family Book was published in Dudenhofen a few years ago.

My grandfather was August Emil Kuechler. His mother was Dorthea Elisabeth Stamm. His father was Carl Jacob Kuechler. He was born in Danzig, Germany. He went to Wisconsin, after entering the U.S. in l887, at the age of 10.

I am intrested in researching the Kuechler family.
