Marge,
To the best of my knowledge, no. I will forward your message to my cousin, she has a bit more information on that side of the family.

Hello Marge,
My cousin Susan and I do not know if our Kuechler/Kiichler/Keichler family was related to the Kuechler people that you have asked us about who lived in Chicago. To the best of my knowledge neither our patriach Charles/Karl nor his son Karl were ever in Chicago. I have sent to you our Keichler family outline and as you could see from that information there is no apparent connection to the Kuechler's you mention. I see similarities in the given names but they seem to have been common.
Have you heard back from the Solhand Lutheran Church that Susan and I gave you the address? I think if we have a connection, it will be more apparent once we find supporting evidence from the church or community records.
I am sorry I cannot help you further on the Chicago people but I have no records or leads that would remotely support our family of Kuechler/Kiichler/Keichler's having been related to the ones you mention or that they were ever connected to Chicago.
If you find that your Chicago people have connections to Nebraska or were possibly related to our Nebraska people, please let us know.
Vicky

I just found out my Fred Kuechler was really a Jakob or Jacob born in either 1839 or possibly 1829. I found his death in the St. James Luth. Church records in Chicago. I still don't know where he was buried. I don't know where he came from in Germany but I do know he married the gr. grandmother, Magdalena Schaeffer in approx. 1855 and she was from Malburg, Baden. I don't know what church they were married in, but she was christened Katholisch. So if you find a Jakob/Jacob, that's my guy.

I'm five years late, but I came upon this thread and wondered how far you had followed it up. We may have the opportunity to stop in Sohland in early April, and it there is any trace of the family there, such as gravestones, it would be good to see it.

Here's one bit of a note i wrote myself:

In 1 June 1868, Carl Gottlob Heinrich Schubert, weaver from Pfarrwiedemuth,
married Wilhelmine Amalie Kuechler of Pfarrwiedemuth.
The wedding was held at Sohland.

Other than that half the men in Sohland and thereabouts seem to have been named Karl, this appears to have been my great-grandparents. they came to the US shortly after 1881, and were briefly in Plattsmouth, Nebraska before moving on to Wyoming, where they both are buried.

do you have a clue whether there is a cemetery attached to the church?

I have a cousin DeAnna who has done something with this but I have forgotten her last name now. Perhaps you encountered her.

thanks for any comments

Wow, I had forgotten about this post!

Wonder if everyone that left the Sohland area ended up in Plattsmouth? There is such repetition of names for that time period, hard to tell if we would have a connection or not, but there is a possibility. There were 2 other brothers on the Richter side that came over but don't know their names, possible these relatives of yours are on the Keuchler side.
And no kidding about the Karl/Carl! Not to mention August, Auguste, Amalie, Paul/Pauline!

Do you know the names of any other relatives that came over?

My great grandmother Nettie, daughter of Auguste Kuechler Richter married a Macy and moved to Wyoming. Another favorite state for these guys was Oregon.

I do believe the graveyard is attached to the church but not positive. Usually they were, so I would think it is still. A lot of graves are no longer there, they are re-used after a certain amount of time due to land shortage, but the records are amazing!

Have not heard from anyone named DeAnna, too bad, she may have information that would help. With my research I have found about 4 cousins, it's great!

Susan

Hello Jamie, this is Vicky, Susan's cousin. Have you and I exchanged emails before? Do you show a Lushinsky in your collateral family lines?
I am fascinated with your information here and it is worth our comparing notes on this.
Our Carl Kiichler/Kuechler returned to Sohland after immigrating to USA. He left his wife and children in USA. This would suggest he still had a place to return to in Sohland and I wonder if he had more grown children still in Sohland. Please feel free to contact me directly also: vlouise_@hotmail.com.
Thank you for your posting and I wish you greatest success in your travels. I have not been contacted by a DeAnna either. Please followup with me and/or Susan!
Sincerely,
Vicky

I wrote you a while back about Kuechlers in Chicago and then found my Jacob Fred Kuechler born 1829 was from Langen, Province of Itghem,Darnstadt (Hesse-Darnstedt today). I think Sohland is in the vicinity of above and believe they were Lutheran. He married Magdalena Schaefer about 1855-60 and came over here in 1867-68 with a couple of kids. Do you have access to that church? I lost the address you gave me and do they have an email and lookup?
Thanks, Marge Olson

hi, again.
I've been trying to figure this out and collect my info, but it appears that my great grandmother's name was Wilhelmine Amalia Kuechler, married name Schubert, from Obersohland, Saxony. I have some info but it is in pretty clumsy form, plus I don't handle boards like this very confidently, so if you wish, you can e-mail me you address at writerjamie@gmail.com and I will send the enclosure.

good luck to us all.

I am interested in contacting the Lutheran Church in Sohland an der Spree to request information. How did you contact the church? Any suggestions you can offer will be appreciated. Thank you.
