Kubler/Kuebler from Siblingen, Schaffhausen, Switzerland

Kubler/Kuebler from Siblingen, Schaffhausen, Switzerland

Our Kuebler ancestors came from Siblingen in 1850. They came through Le Havre and then New York. Eventually some of them settled in Chicago. There appears to be a family link (a brother) in Ohio as well, but I cannot prove it yet. Does anyone know about Hironimus Kubler born 1795 in Siblingen or his ancestors? There were 6 children and 1 grandchild on the ship list. Thank you for your help.

In my genealogy records I have a Hieronymous Kuebler born 1727, died 1772. He married Anna Tanner, a distant ancestor of mine. If this message reaches you, I can supply more information.

Best regards,

My 3rd great-grandfather was named Hieronymous Kibler (originally Kuebler) and is also from Siblingen. He was born in 1791, came to the US in 1835, and settled in Fulton County, Ohio. He died in 1853. He was married to Susanna Meister, who was originally from Merishausen, another small town in the Schaffhausen Canton. This appears to be your family link.

Hi. The Hieronymous Kuebler I've been trying to learn more information about was from Siblingen. The estimated birth date I have is 1795. I have a ship list of his family arriving in 1850. He is listed as Hironim age 55. His family on the ship is listed as Anna born 1804, Barbara born 1824, Conrad born 1822, Jacob born 1828, Hironim born 1841, Anna born 1846 (other census info says 1845), Jacob born 1850 (other info I have indicates 1848).

Does any of this information match or seem similar to data you have?

Thanks again for you help. I appreciate it.

Doesn't seem to match up, but in my research I've noticed that it seems like the whole Kuebler family in Siblingen packed up and moved to the US in the 1830's. Since there were several siblings and their families (and it looks like Jacob and Hieronymous were very common names), they're likely related.

Dawn,

I have copies of all the actual records for Hieronymus Kubler (Kibler) of Fulton County, Ohio and his family, directly from Schaffhausen. They trace clearly and directly back to the 1500's, long before our family lineage came to the US (Fulton County, Ohio).

I was in Switzerland years ago and I met a direct Kubler family member who had transcribed all the old church and 'canton' (county) records from Siblingen, Merishausen, Schaffhausen, etc. I am 100% certain of their authenticity and accuracy because he is a civil clerk whose job it is to keep these records.

I would be interested in having a copy of the ship manifest from Le Havre that lists Hieornymus (I believe the ship was the 'Asie' ?) if you could send me a copy. A child was born between Siblingen and Le Havre as the family worked their way from Switzerland to France, then to the US. Thanks for your reply.

Yes, these family members are all interconnected and related. I have actual copies and complete family records from present to when Hieronymus and family came to Fulton County, Ohio, all the way back to the 1500's in Siblingen/Schaffhausen, Switzerland.

I have been on a genealogy hiatus. I will need a few days to get re-organized. I have the ship manifest saved in my shoebox. It does show a boy Jakob with age listed as 1/2 (presume it means 6 months old). I have looked at civil war records for two men in the family I'm tracking. Does anyone know why the whole clan seemed to pick up and leave Switzerland?

As I understand, canton (county) Schaffhausen may have been experiencing population growth in the early 1800's and there was a shortage of food (crop failure?) similar to the Irish potatoe famine but not as severe. Apparently village elders were paying the way for families to travel to America. This information comes to me from Kubler/Kibler family members in Siblingen and Schaffhausen, Switzerland ca. 1985.

Here's a note I sent to Dawn Kuebler on 01 November 2013 about my lineage of the Kubler/ Kibler family:

I just checked the original hard copies of my records from Schaffhausen, Switzerland and compared them to the passenger list from the ship 'Asie' that sailed from Le Havre to New York in 1834:

http://www.immigrantships.net/v14/1800v14/asia18340526.html

Passengers #42 and 43 are my great grandparents:

#42, 'Jaques Kubler' is Hans Jacob Kubler, born in Siblingen on 08 September, 1791. He died in Fulton County, Ohio on 14 July 1853.

#43 'Susanne Kubler' is Susanna (Meister) Kubler, born in Merishausen on 01 January 1787. She died in Fulton County on 08 December 1870.

According to the printed records I'm looking at, Hans Jacob and Susanna Mesiter Kubler had 7 children. Their names are confirmed by the link I sent you though Hans Jacob and Susanna's ages are off by a few years: The children are, from oldest to youngest,

Maria
Jakob
Elisabeth (Lizzie)
Hans Georg
Susanna
Hieronymus (Moses)
Melchior (born en route to Le Havre because he doesn't appear in the Siblingen church or 'canton' (county) records.

=========

And a previous note the day before:

Thanks for your e-mail. The Kubler family that I trace my lineage through (Kibler) came to New York from Schaffhausen, Switzerland, then through Le Havre, France, in 1834. I have a copy of the ship's manifest-- the ship was called the 'Asie'-- and here is a link to the information:

http://www.immigrantships.net/v14/1800v14/asia18340526.html

Here is a link to various ships' date bases/ passenger lists for immigrants with German roots. You may find the ship "Le Frances" (Francis??) here:

http://www.germanyroots.com/ships/ships.php?lan=en

I'm not certain whether our family originates from the same direct Kubler family, at the same time. The first Kubler from my lineage arrived in New York in 1834 on the Asie. I do have copies of all the Swiss records 'my' lineage of Kublers going back to the 1500's in Switzerland, tracing directly through the Swiss immigrants aboard the 'Asie'. Let me know how I can help you in your search. I look forward to your reply.

Dawn,

Here's what I've found about a Jacob Kubler (Kibler) that matches the age of the one on the ship manifest you sent. The ship manifest says he is 22 years old and this particular Jacob Kubler (Swiss) was born in 1838. This makes him the correct age and nationality: Bear in mind that many, many children were named Jacob, Hans, Anna, George, Barbara, etc.

Jacob, son of Hieronymus and Anna (Surbeck) Kubler
Born 16 March 1828 in Siblingen, Switzerland
Date of death not listed

Wife: Anna Barbara Bruhlmann
Born 6 February 1831 in Lohn Switzerland
Daughter of Andreas and Ursala (Weber) Kubler
Married 16 January 1849 in Winterthur, Switzerland

"No children listed"

Two important notes to point out:

1) A telling footnote at the bottom of the page from the Swiss registry says,

" Sehr wahrscheinlich im Jahr 1850 mit den Eltern nach Nordamerika ausgewandert (siehe auch Blatt der Eltern)" - Went to North America with his elders in 1850. That means that his parents, Hieronymus and Anna (Surbeck) Kubler should also be listed on the manifest.

Hieronymus was born in Siblingen on 11 January 1795.

Anna was born in Oberhallau on 18 March 1804.

Let me know if this helps and how you would like to proceed. I think the footnote about going to America is significant. Do you have the rest of the ship's manifest that might list Hieronymus and Anna? That would help match their ages and the date the ship landed in New York.

Regards,

Mark
