Thanks for your prompt reply. The brother of my gran'pa was a Joseph... I just asked my mother to collect all dates, parent names and place names for me to send on the Internet. I hope that these precisions will be accurate enough to allow me finding new familly members in the States. I'm currently living in France but I own a house in south Florida (spend about 3 months a year over there) where I expect to retire. More to come. Jean Michel

HI NANCY: AS I UNDERSTAND THE NAME DIFERENCES AS EXPLAINED BY SOME WHO WENT THROUGH THE PROCESS. THE PEOPLE AT ELLIS ISLAND MANY TIMES COULD NOT SPELL THE NAMES IN ENGLISH THE WAY THEY SOUNDED. THEY TOOK THRIE BEST SHOT, AND THE PEOPLE HAD TO LIVE WITH THAT SPELLING EVER AFTER. A STORY ONE PERSON RELAYED TO ME FROM NEW JERSEY. HE WAS POLISH AND HAD ONE OF THOSE 15 PLUS SYLABELL NAMES. THE PERSON TAKING THE INFO BECAME VERY FRUSTRATED SINCE HE COULD NOT SPELL THE NAME NEAR RIGHT. IN HIS ANGER HE SAID WHY DON'T YOU HAVE A SIMPLE NAME LIKE DAVIS? THE IMMIGRANT SAID OK. HE WAS DAVIS EVER SINCE. HIS FAMILY IS GOING TO HAVE A DIFFICULT TIME TRACING HIM BACK TO -POLAND FRANK

Have been searching for information on a Michael and/or Adam Kubas. They show up in the 1920 census in the Pottsville hard coal region. Michael may be my Granfather, my Father was born in 1925 in the Carmichel area of Pa.

I have been searching for Within the State of New York and Pennsylvania. My family lives in the Pittsbugh area. My father and aunt were born in the Fayette and Greene County area in the mid 1920's. We believe that their father and uncle Adam were in the Pottsville area in 1920 (Census). It was rumored that he my grandfather may have gone to New York after my father was born. The Kubas name is common in the Greensburg area of Pa.

My father is Michael. J. Kubas, rumored to be a Jr. His father dissappeared and/or died shortly after his birth in 1925. He was born in Greene County, Pa. We may have found his father in the 1920 Pa. census with a brother Adam in the Pottsville area as miners.

The Michael Kubas I am referring to is not a Jr. His father was Lawrence Kubas who emigrated to the US sometime in the 1860-1870 years and was from Poland which is what the family has always said but on a census record he says Austria but I think in those years the country lines might have been different.
