Detroit - Krzeminski / Krzemienski / Zieman
Hello - know there were lots of Polish people in Detroit, but not many with this name. Our Leon Krzemienski from Poland / Russia (1871-1938) was in Southampton NY at the turn of the century ... but ... was supposed to have had a nephew named Stanley in Detroit. (Found him in the 1930 Detroit census). We strongly suspect that the Constatine Krzeminski found in St. Louis in the 1900 census was a brother. (Born 1864 Russia / Poland). Suspect our Leon was from the Warsaw area.
They had changed the name from Krzemienski to Zieman. Any connections, anything sound familiar? What is the dating of your Marcin? Most Poles fled the Prussian occupation and expansion and sailed from Gdansk to Montreal. Hence the "stream" of Polish descendants thru Detroit, Chicago and St. Louis.

Adam Krzeminski / Krzemienski / Zieman in Detroit
Please see my post to Sue about a missing nephew Stanley in Detroit. What were the dates of your Adam? Any Stanley? PS Please put info in your headings ... we already know this is the Krzeminski Board!

Correct pronunciation in American English: "kshemyenski" (accent on the 'yen')

Re: Detroit - Krzeminski / Krzemienski / Zieman
Thank you for replying to my query The only information I have on my grandfather was found when my father passed away in 1998. I have his birth and death certificate. On the death certificate the christian name has been changed to Martin, which is correct, date of death is 6 July 1936 and was buried on the 9th July 1936 at The Roman Catholic Church, Detroit Michigan. The Church at the top of the certificate is "St. John Cantius Church". I have tried to contact but with no success. Can you suggest any other avenues I could try to find out more information on my grandfather. Living in Australia can be a tad frustrating where genealogy research is concerned.

Re: Detroit - Krzeminski / Krzemienski / Zieman
Hello Down Under -
Can't imagine what you did before the Internet! Just tried the obvious and checked the 1930 Detroit / Michigan census and did not find a Marchin or Martin under any spelling. (The new Ancestry search allows for "approximations" - can you believe there were over 300 Martins born in Poland listed in Wayne County?!?).
There just has to be some connection between your Martin and our Leon. What exactly does the birth certificate for your father say? His christian name? Do you know/guess where he was baptized? (Funeral information for your grandfather from the church wouln't be of much help).

Martin Krzemienski in boarding house 1920 Detroit
Ancestry came thru with a general search - the only Martin in 1920 was alone in a boarding house in Detroit in 1920, age 39 (born 1891) and immigrated in 1909. Once again, when and where was your father born?
|
Correction: Martin born the perfect 1881
Don't ask me to do math before I've had a second cup of coffee! This is becoming very interesting - the only "disconnect" is the arrival of this Martin as late as 1909 - ours arrived ca. 1890.
