My wife's grandfather was Joseph Anthony Krezmin
originally from Springville, NY which around the
Buffalo area. I do know that there are a number
of variations to the spelling, Krzymien, Krazmin,
Krezmien. There is quite a bit published on the
family, and they do have a family reunion every
other year or two.

Hi John - hope this finds you two years later - will also try your email account. Since about 1910, our family has been known simply as Zieman - proper naturalization process with name change. From recorded history of Our Lady of Poland Catholic Church in Southampton NY, we have JUST LEARNED that our grandfather was Leon John Kryziemian (and not just Leo Zieman) who immigrated from "Germany" (Prussia) and spoke Polish. He first went to St. Louis, met and wed Marian Ruskowska in 1892 or 1893 (flakey census data, as always).

Here is where you and Buffalo come in. The newlyweds returned to the East Coast and bounced back and forth between Southampton and New Jersey before settling in Southampton. To this day, we only GUESS that he had family in New Jersey.

Initial searches havn't turned up anything - as you point out, there are too many ways of spelling this Polish name. From basic research on the whole of Prussia, there are many, many recorded variations even over there - the peculiar combination of German and Polish spellings for everything.

In a separate incident, after my mom and dad divorced about 1948, he (Leo Joseph Zieman) went to Buffalo for a year or two after marrying an Edel Kettner. We always wondered why in blazes Buffalo. I'm guessing/hoping that it was to see a previously unkown uncle of his. (They went on to Pompano Beach FL for the next forty years).

Does ANY of this fit in with the Polish community of Buffalo?

Dick Zieman, and son Daniel

My wifes Grandfather was Joseph Krezmin. As mentioned there are numerous spelling variations. They were from Springville, just outside of Buffalo. Other spellings are Krezmein, Krazmein, and so on. Send me an email, and I will put you in contact with someone that may know more on the family.

I'm just curious about the Krzemien name. My maiden name is Nancy Marie Krzemien. My father, named Stanley was born in Gaylord Michigan to Joseph and Josephine Krzemien. He had 3 sisters and 2 brothers. I wonder if we are in the same family line. I know of no relatives in New York.

John,
I saw your post in ancestry. Joseph was John's(Jan) son. and His father was also Joseph but he never came here from Oswiecim. The original spelling in Poland is Krzemien. I have found very many variations of it in the USA. In I would love to compare info. Get in touch if you would like to.

I have done extensive Krazmien(Krzemien) genealogy for the Springville Krazmien(Krzemiens) and we have no one from the Michigan area from the "old" folks. I would be happy to compare information if you want to.
