I wrote a translator about this name because I was getting no where. We are basically non-existent except for immediate family. So I wrote this translator and asked if it was possible that people immigrating over the last 100 years or so could of had the same last name transelated differently depending upon where they landed and here is what he said :

Your last name spelling is phonetically correct and I added it to the dictionary, so you may find there its original spelling in Ukrainian. The Ukrainian letter 'é' sounding like English 'y' in 'play' or in 'yes' might be spelled either following the Central-Eastern European manner as 'j' like in your name or closer to the English (and partially French) manner as 'y' like in the latin dancer's name. So both names are spelled in Ukrainian in same way and mean the same. One more way to spell the 'é' letter as 'i' is rather not phonetically correct.

So the last names Kryklywyj, Kryklywy, and Kryklywvyy are all the same. If you have one of these last names, or even one I have not come across that is very close, we may be related. If you have come to a dead end in your search as well, this could be why. We are most likely all interlinked.

Hi Kathy,

Is the last name pronounced the same (Ker-Klev-ee)? My ansestors came across around 1926-27. They also had 3 ukraine born children but only one born after they arrived. Do you still reside in the Manitoba area?

Sorry, This is an Edit from my last post. The last name is pronounced KRE-KLEE-VEE. And my grandfather did imigrate to canada on May 3, 1926 followed by my grandmother Maria(and two eldest daughters) in December of 1927.
The town they resided in in Ukraine was Podillia in the province of Galicia.

Hey Alicia,
I'm not entirely sure you remember me, but our parents are cousins (I'm down the line from your great uncle Pete)... anyway, I just thought it was really cool that you're actively looking for more Kryklywyjs, since it's something that's attracted my curiousity for a while now. One thing, not that it matters all that much, they had 3 Ukranian born children, and 2 born in Canada (otherwise one of us wouldn't be here, since those 2 were our grandfathers)
Good luck!!

Amazing someone else with my maiden name. A name with no vowels. My grandfather apparently came to Canada, Through Halifax in 1917 at the height of the Russian Revolution. He would have been born in approximately 1878. Sounds weird but he was much older than my grandmother and my parents had me late in life.
