Hello,

I noticed your e-mail on this website. I am a Krpan too! We live in Canada and there are a fair # of us here. I live in Oakville - 30 minutes from Toronto.

The last name originated in Sveti Rok, Lika (Croatia). Let me know if you are interested in learning more!

Take Care

Sveti Rok.. yes.. my mother and grandfather used to mention it a lot. I pulled up a document I made from info I had found and I don't see "anna krpan" anywhere.. but I do have the name "anica krpan". She was my grandfather's grandmother.

My grandfather was born in Iowa, moved to Chicago and then down to FL. But its my understanding that a lot of the relatives (that I know of) are spread out in parts of Iowa, Illinois and Michigan.

If the name sounds familiar or you just want to talk about how difficult it can be to sort through names, drop me a line.

-Katie.

Hi Katie!

Nice to get your reply.

I will try and send an e-mail to your e-mail address that I found on one of the pages here. I'm not sure how often you surf this site.

In a nutshell, my sister (who happens to be named Anka Krpan (a form of Anica) has a family tree that she created with our grandmother "Baka Krpan". Actually, my Baka Krpan was born in DeKalb, Illinois but was sent back to Croatia when she was about 1 year old.

If you would like to e-mail me ... my e-mail address is mark.krpan@ca.securicor.com

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Oh my God! I was just doing a search on the Krpan name and I came across this post that I had responded to back in 2003.

Anica Krpan is really the named Anka (Anna). It's just a nickname of sorts.

There are a lot of nicknames in the Croatian culture because so many people share the same first name that they needed to find a way to distinguish which "Anka" they were referring to.

I guess that you married into your current last name?
Anyhow, my email is mkrpan@gmail.com.

I check that pretty regularly. Sorry for not checking this for 2 years! /mk
