Looking for the orign of the name Krmpotic. It is believed it is Coratian. Does this come from a specific region and would all Krmpotic's here in the US be related? Is the spelling Krmpotich and Krmpotic the same family name?

I am researching the family of Nick and Rosa Thomyonivich Krmpotic who immigrated to the US in 1895 with children Dan 1889 and Frances 1892. Nick was born in Aug 1864 and Rosa was born in Sept 1869. They lived for a time in OK and he is listed as a coal miner.

Would like to share information

Hi, my grandmother was a Krmpotic at birth. Krmpotic's are from Lika, Croatia. I dont have too much info on their family tree, although I have travelled there often. I know of a brother my grandmother had who immigrated with a cousin (?) around the same time as those noted below. His name was Jure (Jurica / Juraj) Krmpotic.

One big issue about immigration records is that the gov at the time would change spellings, or over time, the people themselves would anglo the name. Dan would have been Dane, Frances was most likely Franjka (which was also my granny's name), Nick would have been Nikola and Rosa, most likely Ruza. as for Thomyonivich - That was probably Tomljanovic - which is also a surname in Lika - so it would make some sense.

I'm in Toronto, I know my grand uncle came through NY and at some stage may have settled in the Nevada area.

Do you have any other info?
