Ellen Jane (Jimmie) Sterba, 87, passed away on February 19, 2003. She was born in Pullman, Washington on July 4, 1915 to Dr. Frank O. Kreager, a university professor, and Marcie Iverson Kreager. She received her degree in Home Economics from LSU where she was also first chair violinist in the orchestra. Here she met and married Richard Sterba who became a career Air Force officer of 30 years leading the nomadic life they loved. In 1967, they retired in Albuquerque and she became active in Daughters of the American Revolution, the Retired Officers' Wives' Club, as well as being a substitute teacher. She was enthusiastic about her"plant room", rock-hounding with friends, horses, and having family and friends close. Jimmie was always eager to learn, travel, meet new people, and saw life as an adventure. She is survived by sons, John Sterba, Rob Sterba and wife, Marty, Jeff Sterba and wife, Janet; daughter, Susanne Sheridan and husband, Mike. She has five grandchildren, Matt and Lisa Sheridan, Katy, Dane, Rob, and Nate Sterba; two great-grandchildren, Nic Sheridan-Perez and Taylor Sterba; and longtime friends, Michi Longfellow and Col. Charles Lurie. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to KNME or the Animal Humane Association.
