Dear Ray:
I, too, am a direct descendent of Marie Elizabeth (1799-1877) from Prenslau, Germany (Prussia)( I previously noted it as Trenzlav but after researching further I can attest that we were basing that on handwritten notes which after much research, have found that the first letter is a "P" and not a "T" and it ends in the letter "U" and not "V" and thus it is the town of Prenzlau located west of Hamburg in the North Eastern part of Prussia. Note that nearby there is a town of Kraatz that we wonder more about, too.)

My grandmother (Ada Kraatz Pittman) was raised in Alabama, NY. She was the daughter of Charles W. Kraatz & Emma Hint. Charles W. was the son of Lewis (Louis) Kraatz (1826-1906), one of the 8 children born to Marie Elizabeth Kraatz. Her other children were: Charles (1824-?), Fredricka (1832-?), Charlotte (1836-1909), Ferdinand (1837-1906), William (his name chgd to Croach from Kraatz; unsure why or when) (1853-1938), Christian (?) & Frederick (1858-?). I am still researching but I have a relative who has done extensive research and maybe we can help one another. Do you by any chance, know who Marie Elizabeth Kraatz was married to or when the family came here to the US? Do you have any information about which port they came to here in the US? I also know that Marie died in Wolcottsville, NY and is buried at St. Michael's Luthern Church Cemetery, town of Royalton, Niagara County.

I am also a direct descendant of Mary Elizabeth..if I have this correct this is how Im related: Mary had Lewis, Lewis had Charles W., Charles W. had George A. (Ada's brother), George A. had Arthur, Arthur had Larry and Larry had me! I have a good deal of the family figure out, but any information you can provide me with would be greatly appreciated and I will be more than happy to share anything that I have with you.

Thanks,
Katie

Hi, yes, I believe we are cousins! I believe that Larry had a brother as well -- Clay as I remember. I remember going to Arthur's many, many times when I lived up in Albion!
How shocking it was to receive your note!
Please don't hesitate to contact me again. I have some information as well as photographs but haven't spent a whole lot of time on digging into all this in a couple of years but maybe between the two of us, we can fill in the gaps. By the way, I have been in contact with a distant cousin who lives in Iowa for a few years now and would love to pass along more info to you on the connection. You can contact me at: nlbokhoor@yahoo.com and then we can go from there.
WOW! Small world! I faintly remember your dad, too, and if memory serves me right, he is about my age (59). Love hearing from you!

One add'l note....it's Maria Elizabeth, not Mary Elizabeth. If you're living up in that area near your dad still, you could visit her grave at the church where she's buried. I can give you all that information, too, when you contact me via my email address in the other note.
Nancy
PS: Digging through the family tree, it brought back a memory that I had long forgotten....as a child of 8 or 9, I remember my grandparent (Ada & Clayton) taking me to a fireman's parade and we parked by the church where Maria is buried and then paying our respects at her gravesite.
