We are doing geneology work on the family of George Adelbert Koza. He was born in Pilsno, Poland in about 1867, came to the U.S. in 1903, and settled in Nebraska. He married Anna Worzal in 1897 in Winka, Poland. Please contact me if you have any information.

Hi! I am George A. Koza's granddaughter, daughter of his son Adolph B. Koza. I am also looking for information. Please share with me who you are and what information you have, and I will do the same. I have a little info on Anna's parents.

Georgia, I suspect we are first cousins. My mother, Elsie Slattery, has collected much geneological information about the Koza family. I will pass your message to her, and I expect she will get in touch with you. She just turned 81, and she is the last survivor of that family. She is doing fine and lives in Lincoln. Thanks for responding to the message. Hopefully, we can build on the collective knowledge.

Dear Alan,
Yes, we are first cousins. When I first saw your message, I figured it had been posted by a cousin or child of a cousin, just didn't have a clue which one. Nice to meet you!! My mom, Audrey Koza, is in occasionl contact with Elsie and also reports that she is doing very well.

The info I have comes from research done by Alice Smith, Audrey's twin sister, during the early '80s. I don't have much, but if you'll send me an address or FAX number, I'll get a copy of it to you.

Some tidbits: Dorothy Ann noted that Granpa Koza served 3 years in the German Army. What years, Elsie may know. My sister, Julianne speaks German - I will try to press her into service if I can access military records - she can translate for us. I have accessed some records from Poland, but have no one to translate - perhaps Elsie can remember enough to do some translating - church records would be where I would start.

The information I have is conflicting as to what year GK actually arrived in the US - could be any time between 1903 and 1906.

Some things I picked up browsing this site that you may or may not have found:
-Most Polish immigrants left Europe via Hamburg or Bremen
-There is a web site for the Historic Emigration Office, //users.cybercity.dk, (I'll check this address - it was late at night when I copied it and my handwriting wasn't the best!). This organization as passenger lists for every ship that left Hamburg between 1850 and 1924. Cost is about $75 per year researched, but you get a certificate and other nice goodies if they find your ancestor.

There is another site that has passenger lists, but I'll have to do some checking and will get back to you shortly with that site.

I'll get back to you shortly. And I'd like to get to know you - will share a bit of my history with you later.

'By for now!

Hi, it's me again. Just checked that email address for the Historic Emmigration Office: //users.cybercity.dk will get you there. The other site is Immigrant Ships Transcriber Guild: //istg.rootsweb.com
I didn't find anything useful there, but my search was brief. It's an interesting site, though, and useful for getting a feel for the wealth of information ship's passenger lists have.

Please give Elsie my regards, and I look forward to hearing from you both!

Koza Family

My grandparents were born in Europe in the late 1800 hundreds. All I know is that my grandpa Alois Koza was born in Budupest, Hungry, and my grandma Dolores Koza was born in Prague, Slovakia. They lived in Illinois. They had three son's, and one daughter. My dad was George John Koza, his brother was Joseph Koza, the other brother is Frank or Francis Koza, and the sister's name is Alice Koza Moller. I know that Koza is not a real common name, but I was wondering if some how we could be related.

Thank you

Linda Koza Graham

Linda,

My first impulse to say I doubt any relationship, but I will look at our family records to verify.

My wife's grandfather, Matthew Magdziarz was born in Pilzno, (Austria) Poland in 1877; his parents were Michael Magdziarz and Agnes Koza. I'm wondering if George Adalbert Koza could be related to my wife's great grandmother, Agnes. Do you have any info on George Adalbert's parents and/or siblings? I'm am about to order microfilm taken of records in Pilzno and would be happy to share what I find if you would like to contact me (either reply here or use my email address of Mdobo@aol.com). Thanks!

Classification: Query
Surnames: Magdziarz, Skolik, Skolek, Skoleke
My maiden name is Magdziarz. My father was Joseph Magdziarz. His parents immigrated from Austria (Poland) to the USA in the late 1800's or early 1900's. My grandfather was August Leopold Magdziarz (born in 1877) and my grandmother was Julia Skolik (Skolek ?). Just wondering if they might be related to your Magdziarz family.
