YOUNGSTOWN – Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at 1 p.m. at the Szabo & Sons Funeral Home for Stephen Kovacs, 83, who passed away at St. Elizabeth Health Center on Dec. 25, 2013.
Stephen was born on Sept. 4, 1930, in Budapest, Hungary, a son of Karoly and Bernadette Majoros Kovacs. He came to America and the Youngstown, Ohio area in 1956.
Stephen worked at Berkowitz Scrap Yard from 1957 to 1959 and at Aeroquip Hose from 1959 to 1976. From 1977 to 1994, he worked at GM Lordstown, Ohio Plant, retiring in 1994.
He was a former member of the Hungarian Presbyterian Church, a member of the Youngstown American Hungarian Club, Wick Mason Lodge No. 481, the Scottish Rite, and the Hungarian Freedom Fighters of Youngstown.
He was an avid gardener and loved oil painting.
He married Edith M. Fekete on Dec. 15, 1955, and she passed away Nov. 11, 2012.
Stephen is survived by two sons, Stephen and Richard Kovacs of Youngstown; and a sister, Eva of Hungary.
He was preceded in death by his wife; and two brothers.
