Am looking for info on John Wesley Kough, early settler in Saltillo, PA (Huntingdon Cty??). Known to be a prominent citizen in that town. Probably born about 1850/60's, married Eliza B. before 1882. Son, Lemuel Kough, also apparently well, known in Saltillo. He was born Jan 1882, Married Maggie Bollinger. Any info would be appreciated.

On the 1860 census there is a John W. Kough, age 9, the son of John Margaret Kough. Would your John Wesley be the grandson of Samuel Kough? I'm interested in learning what the relationship is between Samuel Kough, b. 1799, and George Kough, b. abt 1795. Samuel married Sarah Chambers and George married Sarah's sister, Phoebe Chambers.

My maternal grandmother (age 95) is a Kough. Her father was Barton Deforrest Kough (d.2/1916) and mother was Sarah Myrtle Barber (d. 7/4/1920). She remembers very little of her father & mother (they died when she was young). I am looking for info on Barton's lineage. As he was born and lived in the Saltillo area perhaps there is a connection?? FYI: Barton and Sarah had 11 children.

John Wesley Kough's (11/23/1851-2/11/1915) father was also named John who was a brother to my great great grandmother Hattie. Their father was Samuel, who also was very prominent in Saltillo. I could send you my info. Let me know sclark@consultant.com

There is some question as to whether the Kough family of New Ross who had a produce business were related to the family of Matthew Keogh/Keugh of Wexford town. Matthew was born around 1740 and was a retired British army officer living in Wexford at the time of his death in 1798. Samuel Kough was a bacon merchant who passed his very successful business on to his son, Richard Goff Kough. What caught my eye was a death notice in a Calgary newspaper index for Richard Gough Keugh, later corrected to Richard Goff Kough. Members of both families seem to use three or four varied spellings of the surname. Do you have any information on those families which would indicate whether or not they were related? Both families were Protestant and fairly successful financially in the 1700s.

George and Phoebe KOUGH are new discoveries for me. I am trying to verify that they had a son named ALEXANDER born about 1826. He would be my GG Grandfather. Would anyone have a list of their children? Just as a side-note, it appears that it was Alexander's children that changed the spelling to COOK.

Last October I got a copy of a Marriage License from the Clearfield County Courthouse in PA for the marriage of Alexander KOUGH on April 4, 1892 to Susan Truby. His age was 60 and she was 31. His former wife died January 24, 1892. The license does name his parents, George and Phoebe KOUGH. Washington Kough (1832-1913) was another of their sons. I believe John S. and Graham Kough were also their sons.
