I am researching my great grandmother's side of the family. Her name was Frances Koudelka born 26July1866 in Prague, Czech. Story has it that she met my great grandfather John Kase on the ship en route to America. Because they settled in Brooklyn I believe they probably entered the US via NYC. The couple had six children and a farm in Breezeport, NY. Please forward any information via my e-mail or this message board.

This won't help but my great-grandfather was born, I believe, in the part of Czechoslovakia that was known as Moravia. He was born May 1, 1852 and his name was Anton Koudelka. I am 58 and live in San Antonio, TX.

Nick, First of all, do know if the surname Koudelka is a popular name? Second, by chance maybe the familes were related. Do you have any other relatives, brothers, sisters, whatever that you can share. Also when did they come to American and do you know the port of entry?

Both of my father's parents were born in Czechoslovkia... My Grandfather was James, however, my own father's name was James Anton. After their immmigration from Europe, they settled for a while in the Chicago area, then came to Nebraska. My grandmother was a Petranek.

Jan Koudelka - Colfax Co., Nebraska
Phyllis, I am also the descendant of a Nebraska Koudelka from Bohemia. My ggf was Jan Koudelka born in Bohemia in 1847 to Pavel Koudelka and Frantiska Cefl. On September 25, 1899, he married Mrs. Anna Cernin, a divorcee, in Colfax Co., Nebraska. They had a daughter, Paulina Koudelka, born July 30, 1900, in Colfax, Co., Nebraska. Paulina is my grandmother. I have no history on Jan Koudelka except for his marriage certificate. Anna Cernin takes back her previous name in later years. I wonder if perhaps my Jan Koudelka died shortly after they were married. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

My father's parents immigrated to the US about 1905 from Prauge. My father was James Anton Koudelka, his father was James Charles Koudelka and his wife (my grandmother) was Anna Petranek Koudelka. They were married about 1911 and it was a first marriage for both. Neither had been previously married. Their children were James (my father) and his three sisters, Adeline, Vera and Jean. They settled initially near Clarkson, and then moved to Battle Creek, NE about 1918 and lived there for the remainder of their lives. Hope this is helpful. Phyllis

Phyllis, Do you know who your grandfather's parents were? I have to believe that our Koudelkas are connected. However, none of the names you've given me help. Do you know if your grandfather had other family in Clarkson? There are several Koudelkas buried in Clarkson. I would appreciate it if you would contact me through my e-mail at cliner@mwonline.net. It will be easier for us to correspond and I will be able to share our information. Thanks for responding--I really appreciate it. I still have a lot of family living in Nebraska but no one in the family knows what happened to my great grandfather. I would prefer to share what other information I have off-line for privacy reasons. Thank you, Nancy cliner@mwonline.net

Hello, better late then never. I'm just getting back into family history and was surfing the board when I came across your request from 2005. Good grief I guess it's been awhile. It appears that we have the same family line. I have copies of naturalization paper and some mortgage papers for the farm. We've made several trips to the Elmira area and back in 1980 we did locate the "farm" which is has since burned down. Went back to the area in 2005 and couldn't remember the location. We did find the main road out of Breesport but couldn't find the lane. Anyway I have several photos of my great grandparents, their children and the farm that I'd like to share. My grandmother was Louise Helen Kase Heinrich b.19 Dec 1885; d. 31 Aug 1968. Brenda Higgins
