he was my Grandfather: born 1912 as the younger child of Maria(?) Chlebda. That was her secound marrage as her first husband died and she was left with two young boys.
Jozef Kotas had three sisters Jadwiga, Jozka, Hanka and two brothers. The two half bothers left to US before WWI. The area they live are Czarny Potok and are of Łącko and Stary Sacz.
Most people from that area are Gorals but Grandpa said that his family were LACHY as people who work more in the village and city than highlanders. They were working on orchad harvest like apples and plums. They all held the secret to SLIWOWICA: and vodka made of sliwki.
The area was called Galicja as after Poland participation in 1772 the territory was ruled by Austria. Some of my Granfather family left to Germany (first cousins) other to Chicago.
I hope that help others to look for the roods in Poland.

"The Gorals (Polish: Górale; Slovak: Gorali; Cieszyn Silesian: Gorole; literally "highlanders") are a group of indigenous people found in southern Poland, northern Slovakia, and in the region of Cieszyn Silesia in the Czech Republic (Silesian Gorals). There is also a significant Goral diaspora in the area of Bukovina in western Ukraine and in northern Romania, as well as in Chicago, the seat of the Polish Highlanders Alliance of North America."
