Does anyone know what part/s of Poland the surname Kotarski would be most popular?
My Kotarski lived in Peabody Ma. My uncle Alexander was born in MA, his parents had emigrated, and trying to learn about them. My uncle(by marriage) had married my mothers youngest sister Theresa Bradley, they had two sons Alexander, whom we cousins all called George, and Michale.
George married Maureen Ambrose, and Michael married Jane Tusinski. Unfortunately Dr Alexander Kotarski(Theresa's husband) Theresa, and both sons are all deceased now so I can't ask them anything.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Who lived at 242 Lynnfield Street Peabody(Essex County) in the 1930 Census. I know some part of Kotarski family was there, but who, and who else if anyone.
Thanks again.
Barbara

Teresa, I found your post on the Polish Surnames site and did a quick search on Ancestry.com. Here's what I found:
Louis Bronislaw Kotarski
b. Dec 17, 1879 in Poland and married to Sophia, b. 1885 in Poland. Son was Alexander J. Kotarski, b. Dec 28, 1905 in Mass.; d. Mar 1982 in Peabody, Mass.

I found one of his sons: Alexander J. Kotarski, b. Oct 19, 1944 in Mass.; d. Oct 5, 2002. He was married to Maureen, b. 1944. They had a son, Michael B. who was born in 1969.

Louis immigrated 1895, and Sophia in 1901. According to the 1930 Census for Peabody, Mass. where they were living at 202 Lynnfield St., his occupation was a butcher. They married ca 1903.

Hope this helps you out somewhat.

Regards from New Jersey.

Barbara, have you tried to find Louis B Kotarski's naturalization papers? Since the 1930 Census indicated that he immigrated in 1895, you may start from this point of time.
I noticed that on his WWI Registration Card dated Sept 12, 1918, it indicated he was a citizen of Russia / Poland. . it's kinda hard to make out exactly what the notation says in full. Since the borders were constantly changing and I know that at one time or another, Poland was part of Russia, you may also want to head down that road.
Good luck with your search.
Betty

Me again -- I took a quick Ellis Island tour and found Louis B. Kotarski returning from Poland on Sept. 27, 1920. He indicated contact person in U.S. as a brother, B. Kotarski, living at 272 Lynnfield St., Peabody, MA. He also indicated that there was no family relative in Poland as a contact person. I think he perhaps was returning from a funeral of one of his remaining parents. Just a guess, though.
I did look for a B. Kotarski and came up with Bronislaw, but he was living in NY. He had indicated the place he was coming from as Zawivz, Poland.
Are you familiar with Scott Wright? He had one name on his OneWorld Tree list and that was Alexander John Kotarski. He didn't have much info at all though. Another thought I had was to try and contact Maureen Kotarski, widow of Alexander J, born in 1944. I see references in Ancestry.com as to where she's living in the U.S. Public Records Index and phone records. It may be worth a shot!
Over and out for now --

Alexander (George as we called him) was my cousin. I never met his widow though. He died suddenly in Maine. Last I knew they had lived in North Reading MA. But for personal reasons I am very reluctant to try to contact Maureen.
Thank you for your help Maybe that place in Poland is at least a starting point. to find where they may have been from.

Thank you for your help much appreciated. Barbara
