KOTAPISH Family Origins

My father's name is Paul Henry Kotapish, and his father was Joseph Kotapish (although SSDI has the named spelled KOTOPISH for some reason). I am told grandfather and his brothers (names unknown) were Bohemian and settled in the Ohio/Pennsylvania area. Beyond this I know virtually nothing. I'd like to learn where they were from and if there are possible connections with the many other KOTAPISHs I have found in the Kansas, Texas, and west coast areas. Any other help or info regarding origin of this name would be greatly appreciated. I'm quite new at this.

My name is Carl Kotapish. I too have wondered about the origin of my surname. My father's name is Joseph Carl Kotapish. He was born in Chicago. His father I believe was named Frank and I believe was also born in Chicago. Belatedly I found out that my great-grandfather had come from Bohemia. All resided in Chicago, but from what time I do not know. In the Chicago area there is a cemetery by the name of Bohemian National Cemetery. Perhaps it could unlock some clues. The name Kotapish way back when was spelled Kotapis, with the s having a "wedge" on it for the "h" sound.
