Surnames: Kot/Kott/Blushick/Bluchick
Looking for any information concerning my father
-in-law Mike Kot/Kott, born Sept. 12,1888/89 in
Russia to Mikola Kot and Maria Blushick. He and
a brother were in the Austo/Hungarian army and in
1917 right before the Bolshevicks took over, he said
one day they just kept on riding. They ended up in
Canada possibly on board the Kiser Wilhem. From
Canada Mike went to New York, his brother stayed
in Canada and they never saw each other again
(we don't even know the brothers name).

Mike said in Russia his name was James (Yukem?).
He talked about Belaruse, he also said his father was
a farmer. He eventually went to PA to work in the
coal mines, married Barbara (Dora) Stranyak and had
10 children. Mike passed away Nov. 1, 1966 in PA.

Hoping to locate this lost brothers family.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Kathy Kott

My name is Nicole Kott, Daughter of Stanley Kott, from Canada. Hamilton, Ontario. Maybe a connection?

Nicole,

It is very possible. I just found out my father-in-law's real name was Akim (James) Kot, he was a fireman in the Russian Volunteer Navy. According to him he and his brother left Russia in 1917 on the ship Volodga (spelling?). They went to Canada then my father-in-law left and went to the U.S. while his brother stayed in Canada (we do not know the brother's name). Since he spoke broken English he was just given or took the name Mike. We found documents that said he was born in 1887 or 88 (each document had a different date) in the small village of Plumo in the Ukraine. His parents were Micola (or maybe Nicola) Kot and Maria Blueshick (spelling?), his father was a farmer.

He never really told anyone much about himself except that he and his brother were in the military together, left togethr, then split up in Canada and lost touch.

When did your relative go to Canada? Did he have a missing brother? Do you know the name of his parents?

Thanks,
Kathy Kott

Sorry for delay in responding - just learning the Ancestry procedures. Turns out my Mary Kot was really Maria Kollodge.
Seems the Polish way of taking a maiden name is quite complicated. The family is from Poland mostly, some from Germany -- been here since the 1850s and settled in MN.
