These are photos of Betty Kost taken with my aunt, Mary Bensh. It looks like the women were going on a vacation or day trip based on the photo at the picnic table. Betty is the one in the dark pants outfit and Mary is in the plaid shirt. Nothing is written about the other two women, although the one in the sleeveless dress looks like my aunt, Eva Bensh.

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP – Eleanor Katherine Kost, 75, who made her home in Salem, OHIO the last six months with her sister, died Monday evening, Dec. 17, 2012, at the Hospice House in Poland, OHIO. (Mahoning County)

She was born June 9, 1937, in Youngstown, Ohio the daughter of the late Ernest Frederick and Angelika (Hansch) Kost.

Eleanor was a 1955 graduate of Liberty High School and graduated from Wittenberg University with a Degree in Food and Nutrition.
She worked for a number of years at the Youngstown Hospital Association, worked at the Cafaro Hospital in Youngstown and at Shepard of the Valley in Niles, Ohio.

Survivors include her sister, Elaine Rousseau-Kothera of Salem, Ohio; two nieces, Gwen Rousseau of Salem and Mariah Rousseau of Gahanna, OH; a nephew, Jeremy Rousseau of Helen, Ga.; and a great-nephew, Alec Tuohy of Gahanna, Ohio.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas George officiating.

Calling hours will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home, prior to the services.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at Tod Cemetery Chapel with Pastor Bill Wessner officiating.

Burial will be at Tod Cemetery, Youngstown, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Youngstown, OH 44512.

I worked with Bill in the 20th district tactical unit in the early 70's. I met his wife when they were living on Pratt Ave. and she was a waitress on Peterson. I know he died around 1980.

I am related thru' Ignatius Kost, son of Xaverius Kost & Adelhaid Hinger. There are no records of Xaverius, Adelhaid or children ...only Maxmiliana & Ignatius. Can't even find death records except that he bought land from Wunibaldes, in Muskingum, OH.

According to the family register from St. Klemen's Church in Bittelbronn - Benedict Kost "went to America in 1837." He was born: 18 March 1810 in Bittelbronn so the above age would be correct. He was the son of Urbanus Kost and Sophia Wenz.

Re: Egedia Kost, is it possible that this is Angilius Kost, son of Xaverius Havari (Jr) Kost and Adelhaid Hinger, the age would be correct and Kresentia Kost might be his wife.

Re: Eusebia Stahle. Ignatius Kost, son of Xaverius and Adelhaid, had a second wife: Mary Staley whose father is listed as Tenisse Staley. I believe Stahle is pronounced "Staley" in German.

Hans George Kast (Kost) had at least 2 marriages, firstly and the one that applies here was to Ann Margareth Fertig. They had 3 sons: George Jacob Kast, Phillip Kast and my Michael Kast. Philip and Michael both served in the Rev War. Phillip served twice, once as a substitute for his father and the other he enlisted on his own volition. Phillip and Michael died with in months of each other so there was probably and epidemic of some sorts. Both are buried next to their father Hans George in Old Salem Church, Frankford, Cumberland Co., PA
Michael Kast born 26 Mar 1768 in Cumberland Co., PA died 25 May 1804. He married Sybillia "Margareta" Loy on 27 Mar 1792 in Carlisle, Cumberland co., PA. Margaret's parents were Michael and Margareta Lambert Loy/Ley, and old Huguenot family. Michael also served in the Rev War and he and Margaret are buried in Loysville (named after the family), Perry Co., PA. I descend from their son John Nicholas Kost who married Elizabeth Wolf.

Hi .. I'm sorry it's been such a long time since I've been online. I just joined this ancestory.com and have started researching more aggressively for my grandfather. His name was John Kost and he was born 1921 in Newfield, PA and died in 1972 in Swissvale, PA. I am looking for information on his parents, Annie Sivak Kost(e) Urban and Steve Kost(e). I have had no luck at all figuring out anything about Steve Kost(e) and it's driving me crazy. We believe he died in a coal mine in Renton, PA but can find no obit, no death records, nothing.

the Kost family I am working contains only one John, known to me. died at abt. 1 year old. I found 2 SS death records for Johns in Allegheny cty.

Helen Kost, Frackville, died early Thursday morning at Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian Street.

Born in Frackville, she was a daughter of the late John and Anna Lahutsky.

She had been employed at the former Ashland State General Hospital in the housekeeping department.

She served as a yeoman third class in the Navy during World War II.

Helen was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Frackville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Kost, in 1970; her son, George J., in 2005.

She is survived by two sons, Michael Kost, Frackville, and Jeff Kost, Harrisburg; her daughter, Kathy, wife of Edward Stetts, Frackville; two granddaughters, Amy and Trisha Stetts; a brother, Nicholas Lahutsky, Delaware; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday from Thomas M. Sullivan Funeral Home, Frackville. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Frackville, with the Rev. J. Michael Beers, pastor, as the celebrant. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9:30 to the time of services Saturday morning. He was a director and past president of the Mon Yough Chamber of Commerce, was a CPA, loved crossword puzzles and classical music and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Kost was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees. He was the son of the late Peter and Zella Kost. Kost Family - Minnesota

I'm seeking information about a John Kost who lived in Minnesota (Minneapolis area) around the turn of the century. He was married to a woman named Sophie (or Sophia), and they had two sons - Walter Kost (born 1898) and Wallace Stanley Kost (born 1912).

John ended up leaving the family (for reasons I don't know), and Sophie later remarried after her sons were grown. I know little else, including when John was born or when/where he died. He may have been born in Poland, though I am not certain of that.

Any information would be much appreciated.

=My branch of the Kost family tree in Australia began with my grandfather, Albert Kost who was born in NZ and later with his family emigrated to Australia. He had 4 children, Julia, Paul,Ian and Kevin. Paul Kost is my father. All of Alberts children live in Melbourne and surrounding areas. I am aware of two Kost family trees in Melbourne but I am not sure of the family tree beyonfd Albert, but would be very interested to find out more. I will try to find out more of Alberts parents etc.

I have a return address from an envelope that belonged to my aunts. They grew up in PA, moved to NY and lived in NJ. The return address reads:

There was nothing else with the envelope and the postmark is illegible.

My grandmother's parents were John Quincy and Gussie (Adair) Lockwood. My grandfathers parents were Ross & Sophie Mae (Genlick) Kost.

I am trying to track down family of Sophia Kost or Boettcher.
The family originated from a small town in Germany (or in that day Prussia) called Hohenwarte. They sailed on a ship named Silesia and arrived in New York in November 21, 1884. The ships records indicate show Johann (41 and a farmer), Johanna (38 wife - maiden name Bottcher), Sophie (was 18), Carl(Charles was 9), August(was 7) and Adolph was 4.
The first time the Kost family shows up in Pa is in an 1890 directory. Once Sophia landed in the US, she disappers. She is no longer with the family When did your Sophia come over to the US?
I'm curious if spelling of the last name of Boettcher was changed
