I am Kathleen, daughter of Clifford Joseph Kos(b.1937) who married Yvonne Mudgette (b.1940) and granddaughter of Joseph Kos who married Josephine Piasta; both from Poland and settled in Dudley MA. I dont have much family info but i am very glad to see the Kos name being researched. Does anyone know if and when the Kos name was shortened?

My aunt was Josephine Piasta, this was my father's sister. They had 2 children - a son, Clifford (who last I hear was in CA) and a daughter (who 3 yrs ago still lived in the family home in Dudley MA)

My grandfather was Anthony Kos and was born in either Mozirje
or Nazarje Slovenia. I have done some research and I don't
believe that the Kos name was ever shortened.

My grandparents came from Poland near the turn of the century (1900). My grandfather, Frank Kos, was from a town called Mlawa (NW of Warsaw) and according to family oral history, he was one of 13 brothers. I understand the name Kos was not shortened and I have heard that it means "blackbird" in Polish.

Elaine,
My mother's maiden name is PIASTA. Her parents were Edward and Anna Doris (CAPISTRON) PIASTA. Edward has a sister Genevieve and a sister Martha. Edward's parents were Francis PIASTA and Alice BAJROWSKI. Francis had three brothers: Stanley, John, Joseph, and four sisters (I only know their husbands' names). His mother's name was Frances MAJK. I would love to share more information with you as it all goes back to Webster, MA and Poland. E-mail me at k_madison@hotmail.com
