Anyone have any information on the name change from Koran to Korany? I've been told that my grandfather or great-grandfather, Andrew Koran, changed his last name to Korany after moving to the U.S. from Hungary. Have been told that he later resided in DelRay, Michgan.

No info on Korany from Koran but my Uncle's name was Andrew and his mother was from Hungary (Katerina Koran) and her father was George Koran. Some distant connection possible especially since they were all from Hungary and I'm not sure Koran is a common name even in Hungary.

My daughter recently studied some Hungarian in college and informed me that the (yee) added to the end of a name means that the person is from that place. In other words, Korany is from Koran. Now I can't tell you where Koran is, or was, but it seems they are indeed related.

I might have some information on this if we have the same Andrew Koran(y) that came from Hungary and eventually lived in the Detroit area (River Rouge). Wife's first name was Zsuzsanne who was also from Hungary. My great grandfather Andrew passed away in 1948. Some of their children had the last name Koran and some were Korany. I have a picture of him with several of his children from 1942 the day of my grandmother's (Margaret Koran to Joe Smith) wedding.
