Hi,I come from a long line of Koppenheffer which my history starts with Woolf Koppenhaffer & Maria ? who took the Oath of Allegiance 9-11-1732. This linage was completed in 1950 by C.E. Koppenheffer, Emporium, PA. and shows my relatives down thru the years to my grandfather, Frank Welsh Copenhaver 1900-1958. My grandfather was born in 1900 with the surname Koppenheffer and was the son of Allen L. Koppenheffer 1857-1901 and Agnes S. Naylor 1866-????. Allen died in 1901 when my grandfather (Frank Welsh) was a year old and his brother Roy Addison 1898-1958 were sent to school at Girald College in Philadelphia and their surname Koppenheffer was changed to Copenhaver. I know George W. Koppenheffer 1835-1835 was the father of Allen Lark Koppenheffer 1857-1901 both born & buried near Berrysburg, Dauphin County, PA. I am interested in finding out more about my family. My father, Frank William Copenhaver was born in 1924 in Yeagertown, Mifflin Township, PA is still living at 85 and has a wonderful sharp memory of his childhood. He is the son of Frank Welsh Copenhaver 1901-1958 and Verda Grace Steffen 1905-1985. Regards, Mary

I may not have informed you or your daughter that Marlin is/was descended from Michael Koppenhaver (various spellings for Kopenhaver) - a grandson of the immigrant John (Johannes) Wolfgang Copenhafer (spelling may vary) and his wife Anna Maria - they arrrived in this country in 1732 and their son Johannes Thomas Koppenhaver arrived in 1728 - Michael Koppenhaver was a son of Johann Thomas and resided near Myerstown, Jackson Twp., Lebanon Co., Pa., before moving to near Berrysburg, Mifflin Twp., Dauphin Co., Pa. I forget how the relationship goes from there - perhaps I might be able to track the relationship sometime if you are interested... Please let me know

I Am New Admin For This Board (Please Read)

Hello All Cousins,

This Board became available for adoption, and since no one else asked to manage it, I just volunteered.

My ancestry is through the COPENHAVER branch.

While this Board deals with the KOPPENHAVER spelling, I thought I would explain that not all descendants of the original immigrants kept that spelling.

I descend from Johann Wolfgang KOPPENHOFER (b. 1679), through his son, Johann Thomas KOPPENHOFER (b. abt 1810). Not all of Johann Thomas' children kept the original spelling. One son, Capt. Johann Thomas COPENHAVER II (b. 1739), adopted the spelling COPENHAVER. I descend from that ancestor. I've never seen any spelling for this particular branch (Capt. Johann Thomas COPENHAVER II's) other than COPENHAVER. Are there any others on this Board who have that spelling anywhere in their ancestry?

If you ever need to reach me, you can email me at:

GeorgeWDurman@comcast.net
GermannaResearch@comcast.net

Yer Cuz,
George

You need to read the message I responded to, and I never said Martin is the father, grandfather, or great-grandfather to Johann Thomas Koppenheffer the immigrant. Martin or Martinus had a son that removed to Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, and probably is Daniel progenitor. I hope this makes sense. Oh Martin is the grandson of Johann Thomas Koppenheffer through Michael.

You probably already know this by now, but Frederick Koppenheffer's parents are Martinus and Susanna Artz Koppenheffer. Martinus Koppenheffer's parents are Michael Koppenheffer and Eva Maria Batdorf. Susanna Artz's parents are Johann Jacob Artz and Anna Eva Braun. These lines go further back, except Johann Jacob Artz's doesn't. Frederick married Susanna Harner. My great great great great-grandmother Catherine Koppenheffer Hoffman is Frederick's older sister.

Hi,

Ny name is Tim Koppenhaver from Bradford, PA. Are you related to any Koppenhavers from Jefferson County (Punxsutawney, Renyoldsville, DuBois). My grandfather's name was Kenneth Wilson Koppenhaver, born in Troutville, PA in 1919. His father was Harrison Emanuel Koppenhaver, born in Troutville? in 1883. That's about as far back as I can go. Hope to hear from you. Maybe we are distantly related.

Tim Koppenhaver
tkoppenhaver@charter.net

Albert Koppenhaver in Pennsylvania

Information from a cousin suggests that my aunt Isobelle MiILLER married Albert KOPPENHAVER, probably before 1920, and had a son named Albert also. Albert the elder is probably the Albert at SSDI born in 1885, died in Pottstown, Montgomery co, PA.1970. But what happened to Isobelle? I've been able to find no trace of her. I also wonder if Albert the younger married, had a family, and so on. I'd appreciate any small datum to help me find out more about these relatives. Thanks.

I had not worked on this branch of family for several weeks, So I went back to look again at the federal census film that I had found weeks ago. It was my mistake that I recorded "William Koppenhaver instead of "Harrison Koppenhaver". It should be Harrison, his wife-Nora, Alta, William C., and Kenneth Kopenhaver. Now I know how easy it was for the census takers to make mistakes.
Sharon C.

Katherine was a nurse and attended Temple in 1930. William was a podiatrist who resided in Stroudsburg until his death in March of 2002. Thank you Sharon

Uriah Koppenhaver was born Uriah Koppenheffer and is buried alongside his wife in the Brethern in Christ Church cemetary along US Route 209 on the way from Millersburg, PA toward Elizabethville, up on the hill to the left, about a half mile before you get to the church, which is on the right side of the road about three miles after you leave Millersburg (the first church you come to after town). I am his great grandson. Uriah served in the civil war. His unit is listed on his tombstone.

Martin Koppenhaver

Hopefully Brian A. Koppenhaver and Diane LaBruto are still lurking around. I stumbled upon your conversation about Martin Koppenhaver and Sarah Dietrich's children. Martin Koppenhaver was my gggg-grandfather, but through Sarah Sevilla Koppenhaver his child by his second wife Catherine Ann Thomas. According to my g-grandma being a Koppenhaver was like being from the wrong side of the tracks, so when Sarah Sevilla got married to William Ritzman, they agreed to raise Sarah's younger sister Jennie as their own child (Sarah and Jennie's mother was dead). Apparently when Jennie got married it came out that she was a Koppenhaver and not a Ritzman and there was a huge uproar.

In trying to piece together my genealogy I realized that according to some documents Ida Silara Koppenhaver (Martin and Sarah Dietrich's youngest daughter) and Sarah Sevilla Koppenhaver were born in the same year. Do either of you have any info on a divorce or something that would explain this?

Everything I have seen online seems to show that Wolfgang Koppenhoffer was born somewhere between 1650-1680's. This is based upon the fact that his son, Johann Thomas was born circa 1705. Yet you say you have information on the Koppenheffer family back to the 1500's. Was Wolfgang Koppenhoffer's father (who is shown as Jacob Koppenhoffer in some ROOTSWEB postings) born in the late 1500's--say circa 1599?

The following shows my tie-in to this line:

1) Jacob Koppenheffer md ?
2) Hans Wolfgang Koppenheffer md Anna Maria Haffner
3) Johann Thomas Koppenheffer md Anna Maria Zinn
4) Anna Regina Sophia Koppenheffer md Johannes Theiss/Tice/Deiss/Dice
5) John Dice, Jr. md Esther Keiffer
6) Frances Dice md George Ream
7) Ephraim Ream md Amanda Clark
8) James Franklin (Frank) Ream md Lillian Mae Anspach
9) Willis (Bill) Samuel Ream md Oma Marie Yoder
10) William Henry Ream md Frances Charlene Cruea
11) William Henry Ream, Jr. (myself)

Sincerely,
William (Bill) H. Ream, Jr.
