My grandmother Margerat Kopacsi came to USA in the 1940's with her son Tibor. My grandfather stayed in hugary and remarried and had children, looking for any realitives with surname KOPACSI they lived in Buda. HE PRACTICED LAW.

There are at least 160 Kopacsi families listed in the phone books all around Hungary. Most likely at one point they belonged to the same family. As far as I know they originated from the village of Kopacs, that is presently in Croatia. The family broke up during the XVIth. century. One side turned protestants. I'm from that side. I met a few from the catholic side, one is living in Buffalo, the other is still back in Hungary. If you want to get in touch with them let me know. Judith Kopacsi Gelberger

My grandfather lived in Buffalo as a boy before moving to Canada, there are currently five families listed in the phone book in all of Canada. Three that I am (knowingly) related to, we all live in Brantford Ontario.
