My grandmother is Delores, first daughter of Angie. She lives with me in California. My Grandma Angie eventually moved from Michigan to Texas where she remained until her husband died in the 80's. She then moved out to California and passed away about 10 years ago. Do you keep in touch with any of the other children of the Kooi sisters?

I am a "van der Kooi" from Friesland! What do you know about this family, do you have names of your grandparents or the grandparents of your grandparents? My grandfather's name was Jurjen van der Kooi. I hope you will see this mail and hope to hear from you.

Kind regards, Joke van der Kooi

Unfortunately i do not know the wifes name.. but she was 38 in 1892
Jouke Van der kooi 15 (1892) (she is my great great grandmother)

Both kids changed their names upon arriving in america Jouke to Jennie and Sjoerke to Susie. If you perhaps have any information on these particular people i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Jason I am sorry my own knowledge of my family is very limited as there was nothing in writing I found no birth certificates and none of my family put anything in writing. I am sorry that I do not believe however that they dropped Vander from their last name I believe it still to be just Kooi.
Sincerely Sam

Sadie Kooi was the daughter of Henry Kooi & Trena Bergma. Sadie was born 26 Mar 1885 in the Netherlands. On 21 May 1903 she married Henry Liefbroer in Grand Rapids, Kent Co., Michigan.

Henry was the son of Cornelius Liefbroer and the brother of Nellie, Mary, Cornelius Jr., & Jacob. The Leifbroer children were born in the Netherlands.

In stories she related to her own children, Nellie would talk about living near "The Hague" in the Netherlands. She spoke of going there to ski as a child. Nellie married Jan Ottink in or near Grand Rapids, MI..

In our efforts to trace the LEIFBROER family, we are looking at the KOOI relations. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Here's what I know about Chicago Koois . . . .

My great-grandfather was Remko Kooi, born in Chicago to immigrant parents. (I don't have their names, but my family does.) He was orphaned as a teenager and lived with an uncle. He didn't like the uncle, so he jumped a freight train and ended up in Sioux County Iowa. I was told that the Chicago Koois who remained had all daughters so the name died out. There was another brother who ended up in Wyoming. Former US Senator Alan Kooi Simpson is descended from this line. His mother was a Kooi, and was married to a former Wyoming governor. I have a lot of family remaining in Iowa. I know there are many Koois in Michigan, but believe they may only be distant relatives from another immigraton from the Netherlands.
