I have gathered new information on my search for the family of Melchior Konantz 1850-1938, born in Odessa Russia and died in Aberdeen SD. His parents were Jakob Robert and Katharina MALSAM Konanz (b.1820). Grandparents were Michael (1790-) and Anna Maria STREICHER Konanz (1800-aft. 1874). Grt-grndpa Peter (1769-1805) and Elizabeth Konanz. 2nd Grt-grndpa Benedict Konanz (1715-) and 3rd Grt-grndpa Martin Conanz (1684-1740). Katharina Malsam married Andreas DIERINGER after the death of Jakob Robert. My Melchior had siblings Agnes b.1845, Rosalia b.1847 (m. Gabriel Schatz) and Jakob b 1852. All were from Kleinliebental, Odessa. Thanks for any info or pictures.

My great-grandparents were Ferdinand and Dominika (Benfit) Konanz from Kleinliebental. They emigrated through Ellis Island in 1900 with son Jacob, age 3 months. Destination Aberdeen SD. Surname rewritten as Konantz in US. Ferdinand was an orphan? ?Had adopted sister Agnes? Would love to know if he is related per 1920 US census to Jacob R. Konantz, b. Russia, age 32, wife Mary, Marie age 19, Clara age 15, William age 11, Robert age 10, Gertrude age 8, Genevieve age 6, Frank age 4, Angelina age 1; Melcher Konantz, (b. Kleinliebental), age 70. I have seen your relatives' names and have been trying to connect them to my Konantz relatives. The Jacob you mentioned from the 1920 census was my Grandma's brother. All I know at this time is that their family came from one of the two Konanz brothers that came to Kleinliebental area. I am trying to find more info on the other brother, who happens to be the ancestor of a Konanz (without the "t") cousin that lives in Canada. He has a lot of the history that I hope to get in the near future.
I will let you know via email when I find out anything. I was told that the Konantz' that came to America were from the same family of Konantz, as far as they came from the original ancestors that had gone to Russia from Germany.
