Looking for information on the family of Rosanna (Rose Anne) Konantz who married Christopher Springer in 1850s. They lived in Ottumwa in about 1860, then to IL, then WI. Had children Amanda (b.1860), Catherine, Anton, Mary and George (b. 1870). Christopher was born in Germany but not sure of Rosanna's birthplace.

I don't have any direct inforamtion about the family of Rosanna Konantz, but I do have information about the Konantz family tree.

Three brothers came from Weilheim, Germany to Quincy, IL. They came at different times ranging from 1832 to 1840s. Their names were Paul, Anton, and Ignacious (Ignatz), who went by John in the U.S.

I have partial family trees for all of them, but don't see a Rosanna. Ignatz was married to a Rosa. I have the least information about Anton. He had 13 children, but I don't have the names of all of them.

I am relative certain there is some connection between these Konantz's and Rosanna Konantz, because of the relative proximity of Quincy, IL to Ottumwa, IA, and the naming of the son, Anton. Also, to my knowledge, the only other Konantz's in the US immigrated in the 1890's.

There is another Anton Konantz buried in Evergreen Cemetary in Colorado Springs. He died in 1928 and was born in 1858, I think. His wife was Sadie and they ha a son, Frank.

Hi, Tom. I've gotten a lot of information on my Konantz family since I posted that message. Here are the travels of Anton Konantz and his family according to the Konantz research done by Sharon Moore between 1975 2000. The Konantz family emigrated from Wuerttemberg. She describes their wanderings in the United States as follows:
Lived in Clinton County, Indiana from 1847 to 1854.
They're in the 1850 census of Clinton County in Ross Township.
They lived in Wapello County, Iowa from 1854 to 1864.
The 1856 census for Wapello County, Iowa shows them living in Ottumwa.
They lived in Hancock County, Illinois from 1864 to 1873.
They then lived in Wapello County, Iowa from 1873 until 1890. Does any of this jive with your information? The only children of Anton I know about are these six: Joseph, Heigen, Rosina (Rosa?), Lucinda, Hedwig Amanda. All were born in Germany. Joe died in LA in 1925, Heigen died in Montana, Rosa died in Lawler, Iowa, Lucinda died in Nauvoo, IL in 1917, Hedwig died in Harrison, IA in 1931 Amanda died in Council Bluffs, IA in 1917.

That doesn't quite fit with my information, though there are at least two Antons,
which might explain part of the discrepancy. I have a history of the Konantz family,
compiled by the late Albert Konanz of Heidelberg, Germany. He and I were related
but our last common ancestor was born in 1531, so we were something like 13th cousins. He has tracked down the origins of the name as far back as 1401. Paul, Anton, and Ignatz were the sons of Martin Konantz in Weilheim. There were three other siblings, John, Regina, and Joseph, who did not emigrate.

I have less information on Anton than either Ignatz or Paul, but I do have two accounts:
From "Quincy and Adams County - History and Representative Men", David F Wilcox, ed., 1919:
"Anton Konantz was born in the Principality of Hohenzollern in 1808, came to America
in 1834, and located in Quincy. Here he married Henrietta Schepperle; she was born
in the Granduchy of Baden in 1815 and came here with the early pioneers.
Anton Konantz was a shoemaker by trade, following this calling for many years until
his death in 1860, his wife dying later. William Konantz, his oldest son, born in
1841, was engaged in different business enterprises until his death some years ago.
Henry Konantz, another son, was in the grocery business for many years; he dies
several years ago."

From "The History of Adams County, Illinois", 1879:
"Anthony Konantz (deceased); was born in Wirttenburg, Germany in 1808; came to the
U.S. and landed in New York; visited Louisville, New Orleans, Lousiana and St. Louis and located in Quincy, spring of 1832. He married Harriet Schepperly in 1834. She
was born in Baden, Germany, near the River Rhine, in 1815. They had thirteen children, ten living when he dies in 1860, four of whom died since. William, Harriet, Amelia, Lizzie, Fanny (now widow Zimmerman), and Henry, are living; are members of the Unitarian Church. Mrs. Harriet Konantz, his widow, is a hale,
hearty, active business woman, attends to her own collecting, banking, and the
general management of her property."

I don't know how to resolve the inconsistencies, but there are more than one Anton Konantz. I checked and the one buried in Colorado was born in 1873, supposedly in Ohio.

http://www.rootsweb.com/~iladams/ilobit obitk.htm shows an "Antone Konantz" dying at the age of 20 in Quincy in 1870.

Hi, sent message to PDBURNS then found post where you used PAT BURNS so thought I would also send a message here. I am a decendant of Hedwig and Charles Lutz and am searching for more information on their family. You referenced a Sharon Moore who had Konantz family history back to the 1400's and I was wondering if you had contact information for her. Thanks, Bob Fuller
