That doesn't quite fit with my information, though there are at least two Antons,
which might explain part of the discrepancy. I have a history of the Konantz family,
compiled by the late Albert Konanz of Heidelberg, Germany. He and I were related
but our last common ancestor was born in 1531, so we were something like 13th cousins. He has tracked down the origins of the name as far back as 1401. Paul, Anton, and Ignatz were the sons of Martin Konantz in Weilheim. There were three other siblings, John, Regina, and Joseph, who did not emigrate.
I have less information on Anton than either Ignatz or Paul, but I do have two accounts:
From "Quincy and Adams County - History and Representative Men", David F Wilcox, ed., 1919:
"Anton Konantz was born in the Principality of Hohenzollern in 1808, came to America
in 1834, and located in Quincy. Here he married Henrietta Schepperle; she was born
in the Granduchy of Baden in 1815 and came here with the early pioneers.
Anton Konantz was a shoemaker by trade, following this calling for many years until
his death in 1860, his wife dying later. William Konantz, his oldest son, born in
1841, was engaged in different business enterprises until his death some years ago.
Henry Konantz, another son, was in the grocery business for many years; he dies
several years ago."
From "The History of Adams County, Illinois", 1879:
"Anthony Konantz (deceased); was born in Wirttenburg, Germany in 1808; came to the
U.S. and landed in New York; visited Louisville, New Orleans, Lousiana and St. Louis and located in Quincy, spring of 1832. He married Harriet Schepperly in 1834. She
was born in Baden, Germany, near the River Rhine, in 1815. They had thirteen children, ten living when he dies in 1860, four of whom died since. William, Harriet, Amelia, Lizzie, Fanny (now widow Zimmerman), and Henry, are living; are members of the Unitarian Church. Mrs. Harriet Konantz, his widow, is a hale,
hearty, active business woman, attends to her own collecting, banking, and the
general management of her property."
I don't know how to resolve the inconsistencies, but there are more than one Anton Konantz. I checked and the one buried in Colorado was born in 1873, supposedly in Ohio.
http://www.rootsweb.com/~iladams/ilobit obitk.htm shows an "Antone Konantz" dying at the age of 20 in Quincy in 1870.
