I am looking for information on my maternal grandfather Demetro Komar (Comar). He was born in the Hutsul region of Ukraine (in the Carpathean Mountains). As a young man he was a shepherd. He came to North America after WW1 and settled in Thorold, Ontario. Any information would be most appreciated.

Ya my great-grandfather William Komar came from around that region at about the same time and settled near Toronto. We too are not sure as to if he had siblings and of his exact place of birth.

Hi Lisa - I am back on here and just saw this. Yes, we do have a lot of cousins! My father had 10 siblings so his side has even more cousins!

I'm still looking for the village name that our grandfather was born in (unfortunately with no success so far). I had a tip (Orynyn Ukraine) but I don't know if anything will show up with that. If you know anything further about him, please let me know. My Mom has asked me to try to find out more about her father but so far I have nothing to tell her.

Hope all is well with you and your family and that the 'cousins' get together again soon.
Best - Debbie
