Well, judging from the messages I see on this board, I'd say I'm on a close path to certain individuals who may have ancestors from Krasny Brod! I just discovered recently that my great-grandparents were from Krasny Brod, Czech. And I'm curious to know if I may have relations with anyone on this board. Here's my information: Andrej (or Andreij) "Andrew" Koman married to Mary H. Gaspar Both were residents in Pittsburgh, PA and immigrated in the early 1900s.
Andrej Koman's parents' names were Michael and Mary Gaspar Koman. He had a brother named Tredor.
Mary Gaspar Koman's parents' names were Harry Huchko (the spelling of the last name is questionable), and Julia Barna Huchko. She had three sisters named Ann, Kranack, and Julia, and one brother named Andrew.
Does anyone have any information regarding these people? I am in the dark!

Samantha: Hello, by any chance was Mary Andrew's 2nd wife. My grandfather is Andrew Koman and he and my grandmother had 10 children. Several were born in Europe and then the rest were born here. My grandmother was killed in 1929 by an automobile, and then my grandfather remarried a woman by the name of Mary. Let me know if there are any connections. ckm05@bellatlantic.netBecky

Hello! My name is Becky Koman-Miller and I am from line of Andrew & Anna Koman whom came from Krasny Brod in the early 1900's. My father is their youngest child of 11. My father's name is Peter Koman and he is 82 years old. I am the youngest Koman (of my dad's brother's and sisters). I recently coresponded with a Koman directly from Krasny Brod and it is true that there are many Koman's that still reside there and in Prague. If I can be of any help let me know. Becky

Well, here's my situation. I'm a bit stuck because I don't have access to Krasny Brod records. From what my aunt was able to scrounge up, my great grandfather, Andrew (Andrej) Koman, came to the U.S. sometime on or before 1914. He married my great-grandmother, Maria (Mary) Huchko in 1914 in Pittsburgh, and they had the following children: Mary, Helen (whom I'm descended from), Julie, Pauline, Michael, and Andrew.
As for Andrew Koman's parents, I have some records that indicate they were Michael Koman and Maria Gaspar. For Maria Huchko, I've found that her parents were Hric Huchko and Julia Barna/Barnova. I also found some of her siblings: Anna, Hric, Julia, and Eva.
In the late 1980s, a second cousin of mine went with Julie Koman (my grandmother Helen's sister) went back to Krasny Brod and found an old gentleman who remembered Andrew Koman and his family. He led them to two unmarked graves in the church cemetery that he remembered to be where Michael Koman and Maria Gaspar were buried.
So what I basically need are records that confirm my great-grandparents' parents' names, addresses, things of that nature, and if there are any leads and/or census records that I can check online to locate past generations of the Komans and Huchkos, that would be great. I do have the 1880 Census on file for Krasny Brod, but so many people shared the same names that it's difficult to know who was part of what clan.
I also had some conflicting information in U.S. records where one record would say Andrew Koman was from Czechoslovakia and another would say he was from Austria-Hungary. I need to sort through that too but I have no idea how to go about it.
What do you think?

My late father Steven was born in Romania and his mothers name was Julia Koman. I think he had a sister named Leah. I'm just starting my search for any Koman relatives so I may be on the wrong track.

Krista: Hello! As far as I know, all the Koman's from Krasny Brod came to the United States around 1920. My father is the last chid of Andrew and Ahha (Anna) Koman. They had 11 children and several of them where born in Czech. during the beginning of 1900. Did your father have any relatives that lived in Czech? I have many relatives still over in Europe. If you would like information on contacting Koman's in Krasny Brod please feel free to contact me at ckm05@bellatlantic.net. Also, you may be able to pull up information on this site, under the Koman name. Good luck in your search. There are plenty of Koman's here in America and abroad and during the war's over in Europe in the early part of 1900 many Koman's went to different countries to get away from the terror. Let me know if I can help! Becky Koman-Miller ckm05@bellatlantic.net

Re: Krasny Brod Komans( for Becky)
Hello, Thank you for responding to my message. I don't really have much to go on. My father Steven Joseph Koman was born in Romania in 1935(died 1986). His mothers name was Julia and he may have had a sister named Leah. I think his parents were killed and he was separated from his sister, and put into foster care. He moved to Hungary when he was ten and then to Canada when he was 22. There he met my mother who is also Hungarian and the had four children, two boys, two girls, one of which is myself. In the whitepages of Canada there are only four Koman's listed and two belong to my brothers(The other two no relation). I myself now live in Australia with my husband and have noticed some Koman's here as well. I'm mostly interested in finding some living relatives. I know that my father had an uncle and some cousins I believe as well, but they couldn't afford to look after him and that is why he was put into foster care. If you happen to meet anyone along the way who may have a link to my story please keep me in mind, I think I may have a bit of a challenge on my hands, but it'll be interesting. Thanx heaps for your time.
Sincerely, Kristina Moore(nee Koman) :)
