Anton Fredrick "Tony" Komadina, 81, a lifetime resident of New Mexico, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 1998. Tony was born June 13, 1917, the son of Ferda and Julia Jackovich Komadina in Dawson, New Mexico. He had been a star athlete in football and basketball at Dawson High School, and selected center of the All-State Football Team in the 1930s, also played drums in the Dawson High School Band. Tony graduated from Woodbury College in Los Angeles, California, where he met Marjorie Pollock, he and Marjorie were married in Albuquerque on December 8, 1942. After college he served in the Alaskan Front and Aleutian Islands during WWII. He had an extended hospitalization at the end of his tour for injuries suffered from Mustard Gas burns received in duty. After his return to Albuquerque following the war, he became Chief Yard Clerk for the Santa Fe Railway Operations and also announced the arrival and departure of thousands of trains passing through Albuquerque in the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. Many have heard his"All Aboard!" as they left the Duke city. Upon his retirement from the railroad, in the 1970s, 80s, and 90s, he and his wife led thousands of people to every corner of the globe as tour guides for Kollander Travel of Cleveland, Ohio. On every continent, his easy going disposition, and gentle manner made all around him at ease, and opened many doors of hospitality to those who traveled with him. For the last nine years, he had lived with his wife, son's family, grandchildren's families, and great-grandchildren at Vista Hermosa Llama Farm in Corrales. Tony was also a member of the Elks Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Katherine Pollock Komadina; son, Steven A. Komadina, M.D. and his wife, Penelope Kimball Porter Komadina; sisters, Angelina Jasper, Mary Cullender, Ann Komadina, Francis Komadina; and half-brother, Albert Grubasic; grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Komadina Christiansen, Amy Katherine Komadina Victor, Rebecca Ann Komadina Mills, Spencer Kimball Komadina, Elder Neal Anthony Komadina, Bogota Colombia North Mission, and Elder Mark William Komadina, Madrid, Spain Mission; great-grandchildren, Morgan Paige Mills, Cameron Porter Christiansen, Abigail Grace Victor. He will be missed sorely by his family, but will also be missed by all of the guests and visitors to the farm and its animals. New Mexico has lost one of its kindest and best citizens. Visitation will be tonight, Thursday, July 16, 1998, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd., at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho, with the Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. The service will be Friday, July 17, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary conducted by Steven A. Komadina. Interment will follow in Vista Verde Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Spencer Kimball Komadina, Albert Grubasic, Stephen Holt Christiansen, Dwayne Glenn Victor, Chad R. Mills, Cameron Porter Christiansen, and Manuel C. Archuleta, M.D. Following the funeral, all are invited to visit with the family at Vista Hermosa Llama Farm in Corrales. Arrangements by Vista Verde Mortuary.

Surnames: Jakovac/Jackovich/Kovac
Anyone interested in the Julia Jackovich line...the original spelling was Jakovac. Then, my dad (the last male) changed it to Kovac.
